The Creature Commandos season finale, titled A Very Funny Monster, premiered on Max on January 9, 2025. Bringing a close to the show's first season, the episode focuses on the titular team as they break into Princess Ilana Rostovic's castle to kill her. Aside from that, the episode also dives deep into the backstory of Nina Mazursky and exactly how she ended up in Belle Reeve prison.

While a lot goes down in the Creature Commandos season finale, it sees the team succeeding in killing Princess Ilana Rostovic. The killing blow on the princess is landed by The Bride, who doesn't kill her due to the objective of her mission, but rather for something else that the Princess ended up doing earlier in the episode. So, let's dig deep into the Creature Commandos season final.

What happened in the Creature Commandos season finale?

The Creature Commandos season finale dives deep into the origins of Nina Mazursky. As a child, she was born with her lungs outside her body. This meant that growing up she constantly had to be attached to a device that helped her breathe. While her father loved her and helped build machines for her to live, Nina's mother despised her and eventually left her.

Nina's father then experimented on her as a kid where he spliced her DNA with that of aquatic animals and that gave birth to her fish-like mutations. Nina was then able to live without having machines attached to her, but it was less than a normal life for her still. After being enrolled in school, she was constantly bullied by other children.

This prompted her to run away from the house and live outside in a lake which did break her father's heart. Over the years, Nina was then spotted by a bird watcher and eventually taken in by authorities. While the event was being broadcast on the news, her father reached the location to tell her how much he loved her, but since the police were on the spot they shot him as he ignored their warnings to not interact with her.

Nina was then admitted into Belle Reeve prison where she eventually ended up with the Creature Commandos.

The final episode of the DC animated series also sees the death of Nina Mazursky take place. When the Commandos are trying to break into the castle, they see that the Princess is with Clayface in one of the security monitors. However, at the same time, Eric Frankenstein interrupts them which causes the Bride to shoot him down. The group then breaks into the castle.

While they are spying on Rostovic, they see that she has gone for a swim. This makes Nina the best candidate to kill her, and while she has never killed anyone, she takes the opportunity to prove herself. At the same time, Amanda Waller learns that Circe had lied about her vision and calls an end to the mission immediately. She contacts the guards in Pokolistan to let them know about the misunderstanding.

However, they are too late to notify the Commandos about Circe's lie and when Nina goes to stab the Princess in the water, Ilana can save herself and ends up killing Nina instead. Heartbroken, the Bride learns about Circe's lie and sees her friend bleed out in the water.

The Bride still kills the Princess

While the Pokolistan guards are able to notify the Commandos about Circe's lie, The Bride is still angry about Nina's death. She then remembers that she still saw Clayface with the Princess and goes to confront Rostovic about it. She tells her that Circe was right all along that she intends to start World War III and that Clayface was her decoy since she knew that Flag would fall for her and trust her.

However, while the Bride does crack Rostovic's plan, she tells her that she isn't going to kill her because she intends to start a war, but because she killed the only friend she ever had. The Bride then shoots the Princess with a bullet in her head and leaves Pokolistan discreetly with Weasel and Dr. Phosphorus.

The Creature Commandos season finale ends with the Bride receiving a new team of her own that includes Phosphorus, Weasel, a brand-new G.I. Robot, She-Bat, and the return of King Shark.

Eric Frankenstein is shown to be alive in the post-credits

The post-credits for the Creature Commandos season finale also reveal that Eric Frankenstein is indeed alive and well. After the Bride shoots him, he is nursed back to health by yet another old lady, and it looks like he is even more in love with the Bride now.

So, going forward, fans can certainly expect Frankenstein to return in season 2. For further updates on the show, stay tuned with us.
