The recent episode of Paramount+ investigative crime drama Criminal Minds: Evolution introduced Jill Gideon, who was supposed to be a part of Criminal Minds from the early stage. Jill Gideon is the ex-wife of the ace criminal profiler and BAU's Senior Supervisory Special Agent, Jason Gideon. Her inclusion in the new season has opened a few old threads and exciting new possibilities for the show.

The show aired on CBS from September 22, 2005, to February 19, 2020. Criminal Minds: Evolution is not a reboot of Criminal Minds but a continuation of the same show with many of the same characters and setup. After the cancelation of the show after its 15th season, Paramount+ picked it up and gave it a new form and style of storytelling.

The series is created and produced by Jeff Davis and features a large ensemble of actors, including Mandy Patinkin, Thomas Gibson, Paget Brewster, Joe Mantegna, Jeniffer Love Hewitt, and several others.

How is Jill Gideon related to Jason Gideon?

Jill Gideons appeared in season 2 episode 7 of the show as a biological psychiatrist specializing in epigenetics, the study of how genes and physiology shape one's psychology. Her expertise was required by the Behavioural Analysis Unit for solving the complex Gold Star Case.

Emily Prentiss contacted her despite David Rossi's orders, as Jill can be crucial for stopping Jade, Damien, and the others. David's decision to not involve Jill is a result of their complicated relationship in the past.

Jill was the wife of Jason Gideon and had an important role in getting BAU up and running. But things took a complicated turn when Jill had an affair with David Rossi, who was her husband's best friend. Later, Jill and David ended things, but her marriage with Jason also ended after a couple of years.

In season 2 of the Paramount+ show, Jill has entered as a recurring character, and there is no confirmation about her presence in season 3 as of yet.

The series focuses on the lives of criminal profiles of the Behavioral Analysis Unit, a department of the FBI for analysis of violent crime. The show features criminal cases and shows the working of the profilers as they try to track down the 'unknown subject.'

The show also focuses on the personal lives of the agents and how they deal with their personal lives while solving complex and violent cases. The show's cast changed a lot since its inception, and many original characters have been written off.

The show was discontinued by CBS after the 15th season. Paramount+ picked it up for streaming, and Criminal Minds: Evolution season 1, also referred to as the 16th season, premiered in November 2022. The streaming platform gave the classic crime drama a makeover, making it darker and grittier.

Instead of the standard 20-25 episode seasons, the latest seasons only consist of 10 episodes and are rated for adult viewing, whereas the previous seasons had a 14+ rating. A true-crime docuseries called The Real Criminal Minds is also undergoing plans by Paramount+ that will feature real cases.

The show has been remade in South Korea into a television series that aired between July 26 and September 28, 2017. There are also several other spinoffs and a video game based on the popular show.

Criminal Minds: Evolution is available for streaming on Paramount+, and the show has already been renewed for a third season.
