Who were Eduardo Valseca and Jayne Valseca?

Episode 25 of Dateline's season 28 showcases the journey that the Valsecas undertook, starting from Eduardo's abduction to the day he was released by his abductors. Eduardo was kidnapped by at least 10 people in five vehicles that targeted their Jeep after he and his wife, Jayne, were returning home after dropping their children to school on June 13, 2007.

Eduardo Valseca was one of the nine children of the newspaper baron and sports promoter, Jose Garcia Valseca. Jose Garcia Valseca had established a newspaper empire named García Valseca Chain thereby founding 37 newspapers in Mexico. Jose operated from a luxury Pullman train car, which was the only trace of luxury that remained in Eduardo's adult days.

Eduardo and Jayne met in 1992 when the latter was an actor appearing in small roles in Loving and Stella and several other commercials. Jayne was at a pay phone in a Maryland parking lot when she spotted Eduardo, who was a divorced art dealer at the time.

The two met for a train ride in the train car left by Jose and started seeing each other soon after. Jayne and Eduardo got married on July 9, 1994, and settled in San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico. Jayne Rager indulged in real estate before marriage, and after they tied the knot, the two started a business where they tore down and fixed up old houses.

Keith Morrison described the ranch in their episode saying:

"They built a real ranch house among the mesquite trees and surrounded it with fine, big gates and outbuildings, a garden for her, a riding ring and fine Spanish horses for him."

The couple gave birth to three children, Fernando, Emiliano, and Nayah, and began the Waldorf Schools by donating a part of the ranch, per NBC News. The couple traversed the quarter-mile country road every day to take their children to school.
