The disappearance of new mother and flight attendant Kelsey Berreth brought the community of Woodland Park, Colorado to a standstill. While the investigation began as a missing persons case, it soon turned into a murder case as shocking details involving her fiancé, Patrick Frazee, surfaced.
Kelsey was beaten to death with a baseball bat in her home while Patrick and his other girlfriend, Krystal Lee Kenney, cleaned up the mess and burnt her body in the former's ranch. When was Kelsey Berreth last seen?
Kelsey Berreth was last seen on November 22, 2018 with her one-year-old daughter, Kaylee, at a local Safeway store where she had bought ingredients for a sweet potato casserole. Her mother, Cheryl Berreth, reported her as a missing person on December 2 as she had been unable to get in touch with her.
The investigators interrogated Kelsey's boyfriend, Patrick Frazee, who shared that he had not seen her since he had picked Kaylee up on November 22. According to ABC News, he mentioned later to the authorities that they had broken up.
Cellphone records stated that Kelsey Berreth had travelled to northern Idaho on November 25, per East Idaho News. The cellphone had travelled with Patrick's other girlfriend, Krystal Lee Kenney, who had come forward with the real story behind Kelsey's disappearance.
How was Kelsey Berreth killed?
According to Oxygen, CBI Agent Jon Grusing contacted Krystal after the FBI found cellphone records of Krystal Lee Kenney in Patrick's cellphone. She initially denied knowing Kelsey but later revealed her part in Kelsey's disappearance soon after.
On November 22, Krystal drove down to the Woodland Park home to clean up blood evidence all over the house.
Patrick Frazee had beaten Kelsey to death with a baseball bat while Kaylee had been in another room, per CBS News. Frazee blindfolded Berreth with a sweater and convinced her to guess the fragrance of a scented candle when he hit her at least 10 to 15 times in her head.
Krystal drove 13 hours with supplies to clean the blood and mess. Per Oxygen, she shared,
“When I first walked in, I saw, um, blood all over the floor. I saw blood up the wall. Saw blood on this wall.”
Patrick threw Kelsey's body inside a black plastic tote bag along with her blood-soaked stuffed toys and a human tooth. They took the body to Patrick's ranch and burnt it with their clothes and belongings.
On her way back, Krystal texted Patrick from Kelsey's phone so as to leave a text trail that staged a break up before she destroyed it. Subsequently, Berreth's phone pinged to a cellphone tower in Idaho and led the investigators to her.
