Jane E. Bashara was born on June 22, 1955, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, to John and Lorraine Engelbrecht. She was a successful professional in marketing, serving as the Senior Marketing Manager for the Netherlands-based energy consulting and testing firm KEMA Services.

Jane studied at Central Michigan University, earning a degree in Bachelor of Business Administration. She then pursued a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy.

Jane Bashara used to actively serve as a member of the Grosse Pointe community, making her a known face in the community. Additionally, she served as the president of the Grosse Pointe South High School Mother's Club.

What happened to Jane Bashara?

According to ABC News, Jane Bashara was last seen by her co-workers after a meeting at Detroit Edison's downtown headquarters on January 24, 2012. She was reported missing by her husband, Bob Bashara, when she did not return to their home on Middlesex Road. However, her work identification card was found at home, while her car and her purse remained missing.

Bob Bashara shared with WXYZ-TV:

"I got home about five after eight and she wasn't around and I relaxed and figured she was out running an errand. As nine and nine-thirty approached, I became much more concerned and I got more people involved. I called my kids to see if they had heard from her and they hadn't."

While the investigation into the disappearance began, Jane's Mercedes-Benz ML350 was spotted parked in an alley at Seven Mile Road on Detroit's east side, according to the Oakland Press. A tow truck driver, who had been out looking for stolen vehicles, found Jane's body in the back seat of the car around 7:00 a.m. local time.

As the authorities were notified about the incident, an autopsy was conducted, and the cause of death was found to be strangulation owing to a crushed windpipe. CBS News further reported that there had been extensive bruising to her upper body and broken fingernails. Jane was in her house slippers, and the contents of her purse had been all over the vehicle.
