What is The Boys about?
The series features the eponymous group of vigilantes standing up against a team of corrupt superpowered individuals (the Supes) known as The Seven. The Supes abuse their powers and status for personal gain. They are backed by the powerful Vought International company, which covers up their crimes and maintains their image as heroes among the general public.
Eric Kripke developed the superhero series for Amazon Prime Video. It is inspired by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic book series of the same name, published between 2006 and 2012. The show's star cast includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Chace Crawford, Antony Starr, Jessie T. Usher, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jensen Ackles, and many others.
The Boys season 4 premiered on June 13, 2024, and concluded its 8-episode run on July 18, 2024. The latest season was praised for being the best of the entire series and set numerous records for its streaming platform. According to Variety, the fourth season was viewed for over 1.3 billion minutes and was ranked #1 in the Top 10 list every week since its debut on June 13, 2024.
On June 11, 2024, the showrunner Eric Kripke announced that the series will end after its fifth season. Two months later, in August 2024, he spoke to Total Film about the anticipation surrounding season 5:
“I feel lots and lots of pressure to end it well. Because I think if we can stick the landing, then people will be like, ‘That’s a great show!"
Kripke also hinted at what fans can expect from the upcoming season:
"There’s no guarantee of who’s gonna survive because we don’t have to keep them for another season, so you can have really shocking, big things happen all the time. And so, as the writers, as we’re starting to cook it up, we’re really enjoying that."
All seasons of The Boys are available to stream on Prime Video.
