Doctor Odyssey season 1 episode 2 aired on Thursday, October 3, on ABC, bringing more chaos into the cruise ship as Dr. Max and the medical team rush to quickly suppress spreading ailments while also navigating their relationships.

Previously on Doctor Odyssey season 1, Doctor Max Bankman was introduced as the new on-board for the luxury cruise ship. Despite the initial tension between the doctor and the rest of the medical crew, they soon find their groove as they tend to ailing passengers. They've treated a man with iodine poisoning, a penile fracture, and a dislocated clavicle, and rescued a man who went overboard.

Dr. Max and Nurse Avery have also gotten close, and with obvious chemistry between them, it wasn't long before they acted on it. They almost hook up after dancing to the tune of Despacito, but halt the entire thing as they realize that it wouldn't be the right decision as they both work at The Odyssey.

Fast forward to Doctor Odyssey season 1 episode 2, and it's Single's Week at The Odyssey. However, Nurse Avery is not a huge fan of having single people flock to the cruise ship. Receiving some good news, including a possible scholarship so she can earn her MD, changes her opinion about Single's Week.

Dr. Max and Nurse Tristan tell Nurse Avery good news that will change her feelings about Single's Week

It's Single's Week at The Odyssey in Doctor Odyssey season 1 episode 2, an event that Nurse Avery dreads. As single men and women start arriving at the luxury cruise ship for the week of fun and mingling, Avery is visibly not thrilled with what's to come.

As she, along with Dr. Max, the new Dr. Odyssey, and Nurse Tristan, watch the arriving passengers, she describes the start of Single's Week as "a pilgrimage to the Mecca for the chronically insecure."

When Dr. Max points out how Nurse Avery "really doesn't like Single's Week" and asks if she had a bad experience before, she replies that she didn't. The nurse explains that relationships are simply "not her thing" before ranting about spending eight years in school without any financial help.

She tells Dr. Max that she had to work two jobs to support herself, but despite all of that, she's a nurse and not a doctor, which is something she wanted to be.

But Nurse Avery is in for a surprise because just as Single's Week at the cruise ship comes to an end in Doctor Odyssey season 1 episode 2, Dr. Max and Nurse Tristan give her some good news. The news will change not only her feelings about Single's Week but can also change her career path in the most significant way.

As the nurse prepares their supplies for Plastic Surgery Week, which is the title of the upcoming episode 3, Dr. Max tells her that he has been reading about their cruise line and that he found that they have higher education full-ride scholarships. He also tells her that he spoke with the Captain, and that if Nurse Avery wants and decides that she wants to be an MD, the Captain will support her with a full scholarship.

Nurse Tristan adds that if Avery is selected for the scholarship, the company only asks that she work for them as the ship's doctor for three years after her residency in exchange, which isn't a bad deal at all. Nurse Avery's jaw drops on the floor upon hearing the good news before she starts jumping for joy.

The three share a hug to celebrate before Nurse Tristan shares another good news with Nurse Avery. He tells her that the fiance of one of their patients, Analisa, has been found.

What happened to the Captain during Single's Week in Doctor Odyssey season 1 episode 2?

Captain Robert Massey had both the fun and the scare during Single's Week at the luxury cruise ship in Doctor Odyssey season 1 episode 2. During the Captain's dinner with some of the passengers and crew dancing on the floor, a beautiful older woman asks Captain Massey for a dance.

A few scenes back, the said woman is someone's "Glammy," or a glamorous granny, whose granddaughter, who is also on the cruise, begged her to join Single's Week. On the dance floor, the woman and the Captain slowly get to know each other.

The woman reveals that she is a widow and the "single's thing" is new to her, but that grieving was easier for her because her late husband was an a**hole.

As for the Captain, he reveals that he's also a widower and that, unlucky for him, his late wife, who died a year ago, was his "everything." Fast forward to their sunset dinner the following day, the woman and Captain Massey enjoy each other's company over champagne, oysters, and laughter as they talk about their lives.

They also share a chaste kiss, before the woman notices that the Captain is looking flushed. At first, she chalks it up to the oysters, but the Captain faints.

The next scene with Captain Massey sees him in the medical bay of the cruise ship, with Dr. Max and the medical team trying to find out his illness. They first think that the Captain had a heart attack, but his vitals don't add up. They say that he has all the signs of a heart attack except for the "attack" part.

In the end, Dr. Max tells Captain Massey in Doctor Odyssey season 1 episode 2 that he has a case of stress cardiomyopathy, aka Broken Heart Syndrome. He also tells the Captain to take it slow for a while, which is something Captain Massey isn't fond of.

When she asks Kelly about it, the woman admits that she's drinking diuretics to have a slimmer body for the cruise.
