The Boys season 4 has been going steady so far and has also shown fans what a desperate Butcher looks like. Picking up from season 3's event, season 4 follows the titular group as they once again take the fight to The Seven, and with Butcher not having much time on his hands as he is slowly dying, he has just gotten more desperate to kill Homelander.
So far, it looks like the series is building up to make Butcher seem evil by the end of season 4. In episode 5, he kidnapped Victoria Neuman's husband so that he could make the supe killing virus for him and sawed off his leg just so that people would think he was dead—and even by Butcher's standards, that is quite evil.
Given that the episode ended with Butcher giving an extremely creepy smile to the camera, it's safe to say that the show is inching closer to showcasing how Butcher's thirst for vengeance has completely overtaken him. This wouldn't be out of the ordinary, though, as in the comic books, Butcher turned evil right at the end too, which led to a climactic battle between him and Hughie.
Butcher turns evil during the finale of The Boys comic
During the final arc of The Boys comic, Butcher is successfully able to kill Black Noir and gets revenge on him for s*xually assaulting and murdering his wife. However, getting revenge on Black Noir didn't make Butcher feel whole, and the anti-hero then decided that he would only be satisfied when all the supes were killed.
He seeks out Vogelbaum's help and creates a virus that will help him kill all the supes in the world. The virus could be dispersed through the clouds thanks to explosives, and it would only target those who have Compound V in their blood. To make sure that his genocidal plan would work perfectly, Butcher decided to kill MM, the Frenchman, and the Woman so that they wouldn't stop him from going through with it.
However, Hughie finds out about the plan and seeks out Butcher, with both of them having a climactic battle at the top of the Empire State Building. The fight leaves Butcher massively injured, and he goads Hughie into killing him by making false claims that he killed his parents. Hughie then goes ahead and kills Butcher.
Fans can maybe expect this version of Butcher in The Boys season 4
The Boys season 4 episode 5 saw Butcher kidnap Sameer, Victoria Neuman's husband, so that he could create more of the supe-killing virus for him. Given that the entire season Butcher has been fighting the urge to put the mission first before his teammates, the scene showcased a drastic shift in him and hinted that maybe Butcher's plan is to eradicate the threat of supes once and for all.
Given that The Boys show has been so much different than the comics, this would certainly be one of the few times that the show may implement one of the comics' ideas into it. However, with three more episodes to go in season 4, it remains to be seen what Butcher will ultimately end up doing.
The Boys season 4 episode 6 premieres Thursday, July 4, on Prime Video.
