Fire Country is a CBS original series starring Max Thierot, Kevin Alejandro, Jordan Calloway, and Stephanie Arcila. The series follows convicted felon Bode Donovan as he joins a rehabilitation initiative known as the California Conservation Camp Program.
Bode works alongside other firefighters in the California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention to deal with forest fires and provide disaster relief. Over the course of the first two seasons of Fire Country, Bode worked alongside Gabriella Perez, who was also a firefighter and paramedic, and Diego Moreno. Bode and Diego would subsequently develop a love triangle with Gabriella, who planned to marry Diego by the end of season 2.
Gabriella seemed to be indecisive even as her wedding to Diego approached, and in the Fire Country's third season's October 18 premiere, she eventually decided not to go through with it. A helicopter crash disrupted her and Diego's plans, and she eventually came clean about her conflicting feelings, causing everyone to conclude that calling off the marriage was probably for the best.
Gabriella did not get married in Fire Country
The helicopter crash that capped off Fire Country season 2 ended up revealing that Gabriella and Diego were not as ready for marriage as they'd wanted to believe. The signs were already present in season 2 episode 9, where Gabriella and Bode shared a kiss while dealing with a campaign fire, something she tried to brush aside.
Gabriella admitted to Bode that she didn't go through with the marriage, and admitted to herself that she had her personal hang-ups to deal with. Despite Bode's checkered past and relatively unreliable personality, she was still drawn to his magnetic nature, something she didn't see in Diego.
Diego himself had been having doubts and could sense Gabriella's lingering feelings for Bode, but ultimately didn't act on them after she reassured him of her commitment. With the season 3 premiere of Fire Country putting an end to their wedding and relationship, Diego can focus completely on his duties as a firefighter.
Gabriella's father remains resistant to Bode
The rekindling of Gabriella and Bode's romance in Fire Country season 3 may face further obstacles from Gabriela's father, Manny Perez. Manny sees similarities between Gabriella and Bode's relationship, and what he himself went through with his ex-wife Roberta.
Manny therefore reached out to Bode's mother, Sharon, to keep a close eye on the two. This could result in further hiccups to the romantic plotline between Bode and Gabriella, so it might be a while before their relationship progresses further.
In the meantime, there will be plenty of plotlines to explore in season 3, with Bode finally being a free man no longer tied to his past criminal record. His character arc has been tumultuous since the beginning of the series, with his quest for rehabilitation having a lot of ups and downs.
By the end of season 2, Bode had become more committed to his work as a firefighter than ever, telling his uncle Luke that it was the first healthy addiction in his life.
With his relationship with Gabriela on the mend, and his love triangle issues with Diego a thing of the past, season 3 promises to explore just how well Bode can adjust to a normal civilian life. Can he truly leave his checkered past behind, or will his old demons keep coming back to haunt him?
Fire Country airs on Fridays on CBS.
