Grace's death in the episode took place under tense circumstances, as people around her grew increasingly suspicious concerning her involvement in her ex-husband's death. With all this in mind, Grace left home in her car and was soon engulfed by a sense of panic.

The uneasiness she felt from the incidents happening around her ultimately led to a car crash, as she got distracted and swerved off the road while struggling to find her earring. The following episode showed the Garvey sisters holding a funeral for Grace.

Grace Garvey dies in Bad Sisters

Grace Garvey's character in Apple TV Plus' Bad Sisters was portrayed by British-Irish actor Anne-Marie Duff. The character was at the center of the show's narrative, as all the incidents in the series happened as a result of her involvement in some specific situations.

In season 1 of the show, when Grace's abusive and toxic husband John Paul died suddenly, she, along with her four sisters (Eva, Ursula, Bibi, and Becka), was reprimanded as part of a life insurance investigation. Following this incident, the show's narrative transitioned between timelines, with one timeline highlighting the sisters' lives before John's death and the other after it.

Therefore, since Grace was such a crucial part of the show's narrative, viewers would have never imagined that her character would be killed off in the second episode of Bad Sisters season 2. Nevertheless, it happened. As mentioned previously, Grace swerved off the road while looking for her earring and met her deadly fate.

In episode 3 of the show, the narrative of Grace's death continues, as the audiences see the character getting a funeral.

That said, shortly after the episodes were aired, show creator Sharon Horgan sat with The Hollywood Reporter for an interview dated November 20, 2024, and spoke about the drastic step of killing off Grace's character. She emphasized that her death was initially proposed and then declined, but once they reflected on it, they found it to be logical and chose to proceed with it.

She continued:

“It felt real. It felt true to the situation that she was in. And, how do you get back from that if you’re a character like Grace, so raw and exposed? It felt like a brutal thing to do, but it felt right for the story.”

Duff, who played Grace, also spoke to the publication and expressed her feelings about her character's fate on the show. She said:

“I felt like there was such an inevitability about it for Grace, because she is such a tragic heroine, isn’t she? She is like a character in a novel. She can’t see her way out of it, and we can’t see it for her, because she’s sort of to her own detriment."

The actress further added:

“She just keeps doing things that will stop her from being rescued, even to the point where she pushes her sisters away and then starts having more secrets and building this fresh wall of secrets. She’s so used to it. It’s become such a habit for her that she can’t not.”
