Pixar's much-awaited animated series Dream Productions premieres on Disney+ on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. Set between the events of the classic Pixar movies Inside Out 1 and Inside Out 2, Dream Productions continues the story of the protagonist, Riley Andersen. This time, the franchise focuses on the new concept of a dream studio inside Riley's mind.
The four-episode miniseries chronicles Riley's transition from a child to a teenager and introduces several new characters in her mind. Paula Pell and Richard Ayoade have joined the cast as central characters, playing dream directors who will shape Riley's memories and create the 'next big tween-dream hit.'
Apart from the existing cast members who played different emotions in parts 1 and 2 of Inside Out, the series has added several new cast members to its lineup. Read along to learn more about the cast and their characters.

Paula Pell as Paula Persimmon
In Dream Productions, the central character of dream director Paula Persimmon is voiced by Paula Pell, the American actress, comedian, and writer. She is best known for her work as a writer for NBC's Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 2020.
Her other notable credits include Birdman, Sisters, 30 Rock, and Parks and Recreation. She was also a part of Inside Out 1 as the voice of Riley's Mom's Anger.
Richard Ayoade as Xeni
The other dream director in the series, Xeni, is voiced by the acclaimed British actor, comedian, writer, and director Richard Ayoade. Ayoade rose to fame with his BAFTA Award-winning performance in The IT Crowd.
He co-created the horror parody Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and appeared in shows like The Mighty Boosh and Nathan Barley. As a director, he has worked on the films Submarine and The Double and music videos for multiple artists.
Maya Rudolph as Jean Dewberry
The renowned actress and comedian Maya Rudolph has lent her voice to the character of Jean Dewberry, the head of the Dream Studio and Paula's boss. Rudolph was a cast member on NBC's Saturday Night Live and has worked in movies like Bridesmaids, Idiocracy, and Grown Ups.
She has also voiced characters in animated hits such as Big Hero 6, The Angry Birds Movie, and Shrek the Third. Her voice-over performance in Big Mouth earned her four Primetime Emmy Awards.
Ally Maki as Janelle
Another addition to the Inside Out franchise, Paula's assistant director, Janelle, is voiced by actress Ally Maki. Maki gained recognition for her role as Jess Kato in the TBS comedy Wrecked and as the voice of Giggle McDimples in Toy Story 4.
Her prominent performances include recurring roles in TV shows like 10 Things I Hate About You, Marvel's Cloak & Dagger, and appearances in New Girl, 2 Broke Girls, and NCIS.
Amy Poehler as Joy
The celebrated actress Amy Poehler is reprising her role from the Inside Out movies as the voice of Riley's core emotion, Joy, in the series. Poehler gained prominence through SNL's Weekend Update segment and as Leslie Knope in the sitcom Parks and Recreation.
Poehler has also lent her voice to characters in films Shrek the Third, Horton Hears a Who!, Monsters vs. Aliens, Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil, and Free Birds. Over the years, she has received several accolades for her work in television, including a Golden Globe Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, a Critics' Choice Award, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

She teams up with Xeni, a confident but reckless daydream director, to create new "tween-dream hits" for Riley. Through the course of the series, Paula, Xeni, and Riley's core emotions navigate creative differences and unexpected challenges, developing a mockumentary-style comedy in Dream Productions.
