Dune: Prophecy episode 4, titled Twice Born, premiered on Max on December 8, 2024. The episode picks up from the events of last week's installment and follows Valya as she tries to regain the Emperor's good graces. In Dune: Prophecy episode 4, Lila wakes up from being dead earlier this season, and the show hints that she may be the key to the reckoning. Overall, this episode of Dune: Prophecy sets the stage for future developments, with only two episodes remaining.

With much yet to come, let's dive into what happens in Dune: Prophecy episode 4.

What happened in Dune: Prophecy episode 4?

What visions did the acolytes see?

Dune: Prophecy episode 4 begins with Emeline having a dream as she sees herself slit her own throat at a well on Wallach IX. She is then consumed by Shai Hulud in the dream, revealing that a Thinking Machine lives inside of it. However, Emeline wakes up to find that everyone else is having the same dream.

Tula decides to investigate these dreams and asks the acolytes to draw what they see. Overcome by fear, they all draw the same thing, manifestations of their fears, followed by the desert, Shai Hulud, and a pair of eyes. These eyes appear to be the same ones Emeline saw at the beginning of the episode inside Shai Hulud.

Interestingly, Desmond Hart later has the same vision during a scene in the Landsraad where he punishes the rebels. Viewers get to see a pair of eyes within Shai Hulud too. By the end of the episode, the acolytes who experienced the visions are seen reading Mother Dorotea's teachings.

What is Valya's plan?

In Dune: Prophecy episode 4, Valya decides to become House Harkonnen's truthsayer and devises a plan to get Harrow into the council during the Landsraad on Salusa Secundus. She learns that the news of Pruwet Richese's murder has been leaked and decides to use this to her advantage. At the same time, she discovers that the rebellion is planning to attack the Landsraad and that she will expose Keiran Atreides.

By spreading the news of Pruwet Richese's murder, two of the Great Houses formally invite House Harkonnen to Landsraad. This is done so that Harrow can accuse Javicco Corrino of breaking laws by letting the murder of Pruwet Richese take place. Princess Ynez shares the same ambitions, growing increasingly concerned about her father's reliance on Desmond Hart.

However, Valya's plans are ultimately ruined by Desmond in Dune: Prophecy episode 4. When Desmond recommends that Corrino remove truthsayers from the Landsraad, the Emperor responds that they will take it easy from now on. At the same time, Natalya reveals that she was the one who leaked information about Pruwet's death and has learned that the Rebellion is using thinking machines to execute the Emperor.

On the day of the council, Harrow goes to accuse Corrino, but Ynez beats him to the chase. With unrest in the court, Desmond reveals himself and justifies Pruwet's execution by stating that he was holding a thinking machine. He then brings out the members of the rebellion and executes them on the spot. However, his powers become overwhelming, and he starts bleeding from his body.

While the plot of using Harrow is unsuccessful, Valya manages to get Desmond's blood. She orders Theodosia to send it to Tula and requests one more thing. At the end of the episode, Valya gets into an argument with her uncle, Evgeny Harkonnen, who accuses her of betraying her family.

Subsequently, Valya kills him by keeping his respiratory device out of reach. She is then met by Griffin, her dead brother, who tells her that whatever she did was right and his death wasn't her fault as he made his choice. However, it is later revealed that Griffin was just Theodosia in disguise, as she can shapeshift too.

Could Lila be the key to the reckoning?

Dune: Prophecy episode 4 also sees Lila finally awakening after being dead. She died in episode 2 after going through the Agony to learn more about the reckoning. In episode 3, it was revealed that Tula is trying to revive her through spice. It looks like it worked out as she wakes up after Tula has a vision of her killing Emeline as she knows the truth about Dorotea's death.

It certainly looks like Lila could also be key to the reckoning. In her vision during the Agony, Raquella reveals that the key to the reckoning was born twice - through blood and sand. While Desmond does match the description, so does Lila, as she was revived by spice found on the desert planet of Arrakis.

To have these questions answered, fans will need to stay tuned to the show. Dune: Prophecy episode 4 is currently streaming on Max.
