There is no official confirmation about the release date for Dune: Prophecy season 2. Since the season 1 finale has not yet aired, the future of the characters is undetermined.
As The Playlist reported on November 13, 2024, the Chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, Casey Bloys, shared that he was in talks with Alison Schapker about the probable storylines for Dune: Prophecy season 2. He mentioned at the time that the upcoming installment would be based on the books. As for the possibilities of more seasons, he said:
“I leave it to them to figure out, again, that adaptation, what they get inspired from the original, what they want to add onto or not add onto. So I really do leave it to them in terms of what’s the right amount of episodes or seasons to fulfill their vision for the adaptation.”
The show is produced by Legendary Television, who also produced the Dune films. According to the press release uploaded on Warner Bros. Discovery website on December 19, the President of Television at Legendary, Jason Clodfelter, mentioned:
“This new season will allow us to continue building out the groundbreaking, epic Dune franchise that has captivated audiences worldwide across its installments.”
He added:

Everything to know about the Dune novel series
The science fiction media franchise, Dune starts with Frank Herbert's 1965 novel of the same name. The book has won several accolades like the Hugo Award and Nebula Award for Best Novel and is one of the best-selling science fiction novels ever.
The six-part novel series concludes with Chapterhouse: Dune (1985), which chronicles the Bene Gesserit's struggles for survival. After Frank Herbert's death, his son Brian Herbert and author Kevin J. Anderson have published two additional sequels and a series of prequel novels.
Great Schools of Dune is a part of this prequel collection, focusing on humanity's survival after the defeat of the Omnius (thinking machine armies). The first book in the series, Sisterhood of Dune (2012), is the inspiration for Dune: Prophecy.
During an October 17 interview with ScreenRant at New York Comic Con 2024, writer and executive producer Jordan Goldberg talked about the relationship between the book and the series, saying:
"We are a sort of close adaptation of the Sisterhood of Dune. I think the Sisterhood of Dune, and that trilogy, kind of tells that story that keeps going in the other two books."
He continued:
"So, naturally, we kind of move out there in the other two books, as well, taking what we need from it to tell our story. We also get to tell a kind of new story that's not in the books, and that is about Valya Harkonnen's stewardship of the Sisters."
Plot of Dune: Prophecy season 1
Dune: Prophecy season 1 explores the background of the Bene Gesserit through the eyes of the Harkonnen sisters against the changing political landscape. After the death of Mother Superior Raquella, Valya manipulates events to rise to power, and takes ahead the Sisterhood's controversial breeding program.
Through the episodes, the fans get a glimpse into their training and the political turmoil of the Great Houses. Season 1 sets the groundwork for the Imperium's evolution into the universe seen in Dune.
Although it is not confirmed yet, the main cast members are expected to return for the second installment. The cast of the show includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Chloe Lea, Aoife Hinds, and Chris Mason.
