Angelia Smith Taylor (57) and Sylvester Taylor (66) were found dead in their home on the 1100 block of Lake Glad Road, while LaTonya bled out from gunshot wounds in her bedroom, according to ABC 11 News. LaTonya had suffered shots to the face and chest, with one bullet passing through her chest, heart, and spine, according to The News & Observer.
The parents of LaTonya Taylor were shot to death by their son-in-law, Nathan Lorenzo Holden, who walked into their home looking for his estranged wife. The attack occurred while the three children hid inside the bedroom closet, fearing for their lives.
According to WRAL News, the pistol jammed as Nathan shot LaTonya in her bedroom. However, he went on to pistol-whip her with the butt of the gun. LaTonya Taylor Allen recounted:
"I was down on the floor. I remember being down on my knees, and at that time I had lost eyesight in one of my eyes. He was still hitting me. He stood over me and shot me."
According to The News & Observer, LaTonya had acquired a domestic violence protective order against Nathan in January 2014 after he was convicted of drug offenses. Holden would reportedly stalk and threaten LaTonya around the city. He would allegedly not spare their children from the abuse, as LaTonya had claimed that he had beaten up his son with a broomstick one time.
