The attack on LaTonya Taylor Allen's family by her estranged husband, Nathan Holden, led to his conviction in 2017. Nathan had entered LaTonya's parents' home and opened fire on them in April 2014.

While LaTonya's parents, Angelia Smith Taylor and Sylvester Taylor, were found dead, LaTonya was shot and in critical condition when found. Nathan Holden was sentenced to two consecutive terms of life imprisonment which he is presently serving at the Mountain View Correctional Institution in North Carolina.

Episode 7 of Season 14 of Evil Lives Here chronicles Nathan Holden's conviction as it airs on June 28, 2024, at 7 p.m. EST on Investigation Discovery. The episode originally aired on April 7, 2024. The official synopsis reads,

"LaTonya believes her husband, Nathan, is her best friend; over the years she suffers emotional abuse at his hands and decides to take their kids and leave; Nathan refuses to let go, leading to a night of terror that ends in a tragedy - and a miracle."

How was Nathan Holden arrested?

Nathan Holden and LaTonya Taylor Allen had been living separately in 2014 when he entered her parents' Wendell home and shot them to death. LaTonya had been a survivor of domestic violence and physical abuse at the time. According to WRAL News, Nathan followed her around Raleigh and threatened her family harm.

LaTonya Taylor Allen had reportedly moved to her parent's home in an attempt to distance herself and their three children from Nathan. The couple had social services involved to help LaTonya with the custody of her children, according to The Raleigh News & Observer.

LaTonya had returned home on April 9, 2014, from Bible study and had been lying in her bedroom when she heard gunshots in her home and dialled 911 around 9:45 p.m. local time, per WRAL News. While she hid her children in the closet, she heard commotion in the household as she shared,

"He was yelling in the living room 'Y'all don't want to talk to me today? Someone is gonna talk to me today.' And then I heard gunshots,"

The police officers found Angelia and Sylvester Taylor shot to death in their 1100 block of Lake Glad Road. LaTonya had been beaten with the butt of a pistol and shot in the face and the chest and had been rushed to the WakeMed Hospital.

According to ABC 11 News, the authorities found Holden back in his home in the 3500 block of Holden Acres Lane. A K-9 unit was used to track him to a nearby field where he opened fire on the dog handler and other deputies while they approached him.

Nathan Holden (31) was apprehended around 3 a.m. local time on April 10, 2014.


Where is Nathan Holden now?

Nathan Holden was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon, per WRAL News. Holden was sentenced to two consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole in March 2017, according to The Raleigh News & Observer.

He received an additional 240 to 300 months for the attempted murder of LaTonya Taylor Allen. He is presently incarcerated at the Mountain View Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine, North Carolina.
