Exploding Kittens is being adapted for the screens by Shane Kosakowski who has previously worked in You’re the Worst, and Matthew Inman who is the founder of the webcomic The Oatmeal and the creator of the Exploding Kittens card game.

In the show, viewers will witness the clash between Godcat (voiced by Tom Ellis) and Devilcat (voiced by Sasheer Zamata) as both are sent to Earth for different missions. While Godcat is there to help a family overcome their problems, Devilcat has arrived to create hindrances in his path.

Who is in the cast of Exploding Kittens?

The voice cast of Exploding Kittens comprises Tom Ellis and Sasheer Zamata. The two lend their voices to the characters of Godcat/God and Devilcat/Beelzebub, respectively.

Recently show creator Matthew Inman sat for an interview with Netflix's Tudum where he expressed his satisfaction with the casting for the show. Speaking of Ellis' voiceover for Godcat, he said that it was exactly what they needed. He further added that his voice suited the "huge, world-shattering force of nature stuck in the body of a small cat" narrative very well. Inman further went on to detail how Ellis was the perfect casting for the show:

"He created the universe, so he’s understandably frustrated that he has to poop in a plastic rectangle full of sand. Tom walks the line between belligerence and endearing perfectly. We’re grateful that he’s our Godcat. He’s hilarious.”

In the same interview, Inman also spoke fondly of Zamata:

"Sasheer’s character is basically the antichrist with a heart of gold. She purports to be evil, but really underneath it all, she’s sweet — which is exactly why Devilcat got fired from her job as Satan."

He further added:

"Sasheer delivered on this perfectly. Sasheer would read a line and threaten to burn the Earth down, then two seconds later apologize if that doesn’t work for [everyone’s] schedule. She’s also really good at bringing a ton of crazy demon energy to the character. She can scream, growl, screech, and belch fireballs into a recording studio in a way that awed and frightened us all.”

Besides Ellis and Zamata, the show's voice cast also comprises Ally Maki as Greta Higgins, Mark Proksch as Marv Higgins, Kenny Yates as Travis Higgins, Suzy Nakamura as Abbie Higgins, and Abraham Lim in an undisclosed role.

About Exploding Kittens

The plot of Exploding Kittens follows Tom Ellis' God going on a mission to Earth. However, he is not alone in the mission, Sasheer Zamata's Satan has also accompanied him to deter him from his path. With that being said, due to a glitch in the system, the two are not able to retain their physical forms when they reach Earth. Instead, they are turned into cats.

Here is the official logline for the show, released by Netflix:

"It's the ultimate fight between good and evil when God and his nemesis, the spawn of Satan, are sent to Earth to live with humans — as talking cats."
