Fans are wondering if Exploding Kittens season 2 is a viable option given that season 1 ended with some questions left unanswered. As the finale ends, viewers keep wondering what might happen to Godcat and Devilcat next now that Heaven and Hell have been dissolved.
All nine episodes of Exploding Kittens were released on Netflix on July 12, 2024. The official synopsis of the show reads:
“It's the ultimate fight between good and evil when God and his nemesis, the spawn of Satan, are sent to Earth to live with humans — as talking cats.”
Exploding Kittens season 2 might build on the chaotic finale of season 1, which is filled with one surprise after another. Loosely based on the bestselling card game of the same name designed by Matthew Inman, Elan Lee, and Shane Small, the characters in this animated series are voiced by Tom Ellis, Sasheer Zamata, Ally Maki, and Mark Proksch, among others.
Why should there be an Exploding Kittens season 2?
Early on in the series, we see that Heaven is run like an office. The sad state of life on Earth, coupled with the growingly irritating behavior of God, prompts the board of Heaven to send God down to live among mortals. But there is a catch: God comes to Earth as a talking cat with limited powers.
His mission is to bring joy to the dysfunctional Higgins family. He sets out to do this but discovers that his neighbor is another cat—none other than Devilcat, shown as the daughter of Satan in the series. A good vs. evil battle is the result of this.
However, a complicated plot is afoot up there in Heaven as the companions of God and Satan are planning to merge Hell and Heaven. It turns out that the decision to send God down as Godcat was a ruse to cover this up.
Anyway, Godcat and Devilcat manage to fight for the position of CEO in the organization that is about to be built. After a series of adventures, Godcat wins. Another surprise is here: the first task he has to accomplish is wiping out humanity by pressing a button that will bring about the Apocalypse.
Godcat has become affectionate towards humanity in the time he stayed on earth, and as he hesitates with the fateful button, Devilcat demolishes the board with her wrath, and then her labor pain begins. The twist revealed here is that she is pregnant with Godcat’s kittens.
They come down to the Higgins family, where Devilcat gives birth to a lot of kittens. However, a final obstacle is on the way in the form of a meteor that is about to crash into the earth and cause heavy damage. Godcat rises to the occasion and saves the day.
Exploding Kittens season 2 could provide answers to several conflicts that are not resolved by the end of season 1. For instance, now that Godcat and Devilcat are parents, what will be the equation between them? Further, with none left in Heaven and Hell, who is/are going to run things from this point onward?
The kittens, who are the children of Godcat and Devil, could be given some focus in Exploding Kittens season 2. There would be no lack of adventures and humor with them around.
