A rumor circulating on social media has led people to believe that Disney Junior's Doc McStuffins has died of cancer. Starting Friday, July 12, many users took to X, Instagram, and TikTok to pay tribute to the Disney character. Most posts were accompanied by an image of a cartoon character resembling Doc, depicted in a hospital bed, looking sad.
In the image, the character sported what appeared to be a pink Chemo cap with a few flowers, along with a hospital gown and pink flip-flops. A woman, seemingly McStuffins' mom, was shown holding a doll and looking dejected.
Some users even mistakenly believed that Kiara Muhammad, the 25-year-old voice actor for McStuffins, had passed away and even paid her tributes. However, neither Dottie 'Doc' McStuffins nor Kiara Muhammad have died.
Disney, the show's producer, has not released any statements regarding the death of McStuffins or the show. In fact, the show ended in 2020 with McStuffins still alive and well. The image used in the tributes did not even feature the iconic toy doctor.
Kiara Muhammad confirmed her well-being in an Instagram story, requesting fans to report and block those spreading such hoaxes.
The girl in the pictures allegedly showcasing Doc McStuffins with cancer is not the iconic character
The viral images of Doc McStuffins in a hospital stem from a season 4 episode of the long-running kids show. The image originates from the first part of the 18th episode, titled Hannah the Brave, which is the 110th episode of the show.
The character featured in the posts is Audrey, a little girl with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Her mother, played by Good Morning America host Robin Roberts, a cancer survivor herself, is featured alongside her.
Doc McStuffins aired on Disney Junior from March 23, 2012, to April 18, 2020. The show is based on a 7-year-old girl named Dottie "Doc" McStuffins who fixes toys with the help of her four toy friends. She has the ability to bring toys to life with her magical toy stethoscope.
In the episode mentioned, Audrey's doll, Hannah, gets gum on her hair, attracting germs that are not good for Audrey. This prompts the doctor to diagnose the doll with a case of "The Icky-Yicky Gummy Stickies."
The doctor is forced to shave Hannah's hair to make her germ-free. This results in the doll looking like Audrey, who also lost her hair. Audrey loves the doll's new look and gains more confidence to undergo chemotherapy. The episode ends on a happy note.
To clarify, despite the rumors floating around on social media, Doc McStuffins is not dead.
