The Harry Potter TV series is officially in development, with each season adapting one book from the original series. Announced in April 2023 by Warner Bros. Discovery, CEO David Zaslav confirmed that J.K. Rowling will be involved in the project. The show aims to stay true to the original storyline, bringing the characters back to the screen across multiple seasons.
It was on September 9, 2024, when the official Instagram handle of Harry Porter posted an open casting call for the Harry Potter TV show. It asked for children across Ireland and the UK to play the iconic trio Harry Potter, Hermoine Granger, and Ron Weasley.
The team is looking for children anywhere from ages 9 to 11, however, no official cast has been confirmed yet. Every rumor claiming otherwise is completely false.
Harry Potter TV show attempts to promote diversity in its cast selection
The casting call posted on Instagram came with a note unveiling their idea of creating an inclusive new set of cast for the television series.
"We are committed to inclusive, diverse casting. For every role, please submit qualified performers, without regard to ethnicity, sex, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law unless otherwise specifically indicated," it said.
Channing Dungey, the Chairperson of Warner Bros, Television in a conversation with Vareity posted on January 22, 2024, shared information about the production of the Harry Potter TV show. She said that the team is still having conversations with different writers to choose who is going to lead the entire franchise.
“The first step for us is figuring out who this showrunner is going to be and once we get that locked down, then we can start having those [casting] conversations. The tricky part is the first two books, where the kids are on the younger end, around 11 or 12 ”, she said.
Daniel Radcliff in conversation with Comic Book, published on July 3, 2023, stated that he does not in any way want to make an appearance in the television franchise.
"My understanding is that they're trying to very much start fresh and I'm sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere. So I'm definitely not seeking it out in any way."
