A rumor about actor Kevin Costner suggesting he is facing "major lawsuits" for engaging in "risky business practices" and endorsing CBD gummies has been circulating online. The campaign began with a paid Facebook ad that falsely claimed that Kevin Costner had passed away. Clicking on the ad redirected users to a fake news article designed to look like a Fox News piece.
The article, titled "Kevin Costner's Risky Business Practices Led to Major Lawsuits: His Response on Air," falsely claimed that Costner was being sued for endorsing CBD products and gummies. It contained several grammatical errors and was not affiliated with Fox News. The article also allegedly came from Brit Hume, a chief political analyst from the platform. However, the official Fox News portal does not feature any such article.
Snopes has debunked the rumor, confirming that Costner has never endorsed or created any CBD gummies or other medicinal products. They also stated that the actor's image and details were used without his permission. The ads led users to scam websites such as manatea.buzz and seamoss.buzz, proving the claims were false.
In other news, Kevin Costner has been gearing up for the release of his next directorial venture, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter Two. It is the sequel to his film, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter One.
Kevin Costner's latest film Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 2 to premiere at the 2024 Venice Festival
The second part of Horizon: An American Saga is set to premiere at the 2024 Venice Festival on September 7. Directed by and starring Kevin Costner, the film also features a stellar supporting cast, including Sienna Miller, Danny Huston, Sam Worthington, and Jena Malone. It explores the beginning of the American West and the expansion of the Civil War.
The first film in the series, Horizon: An American Saga Part One, will also be screened on the same date. The three-hour-long film received a 10-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival in May. It was intended to provide more background and set up the characters.
Speaking about his film being screened at the Venice Film Festival, Kevin Costner said it was always his dream for it to happen. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actor added:
“My dream was always to show Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter Two at the Venice Film Festival. The fact that now they have decided to show Chapter One earlier in the day and then the World Premiere of Chapter Two that evening shows not only their belief in how the two films work together but their support of a director’s vision.”
Costner also thanked the director of the Venice Film Festival, Alberto Barbara, in his statement and said:
“I’m indebted to [Venice Film Fest director] Alberto Barbera for his courage and leadership in committing to this cinematic journey. It is with gratitude and excitement that I return to the Venice Film Festival. Long live the movies and those willing to stand for them.”
The second part of Costner's epic saga was originally scheduled for release on August 16 in the United States. However, according to Variety, the release has been postponed. This decision follows the performance of the first part, which earned only $11 million during its opening weekend despite having a whopping $100 million budget.
