Desperate Lies will only have one season, as confirmed by Netflix
Fans of the series on Netflix will have to make do with one season of Desperate Lies since the streaming platform has announced that it is a limited series. Limited series are restricted to a single season where the entire plot of a series is played out.
The first (and only season) of the Brazilian telenovela follows an expansive plot conveyed over 17 episodes. The plot portrays a long period of 17 years following the events surrounding the protagonist and her family. The story starts around 2006 and leads up to a conclusion in the year 2023.
Thus, the series has already concluded definitively, with little to take the story further. The 17 episodes deal with how the protagonist, Liana Azevedo Rosenthal (Juliana Paes), falls deeper into her pit of lies, trying to cover it up for the sake of her family.
What is the plot of Desperate Lies?
The Brazilian telenovela has a unique story that follows an occupational therapist named Liana Rosenthal who discovers that her husband Tomás (Vladimir Brichta) is cheating on her amid a rough patch in their marriage.
She gets back at her husband by going out with her friend one night and ending up getting romantically involved with her friend's brother, Oscar (Felipe Abib). However, Oscar ends up s*xually assaulting Liana in an unfortunate turn of events. The plot thickens when Liana finds out that she is pregnant with a set of twins but due to a rare condition, the father of each of the children is different.
The telenovela follows how Liana keeps this news from her husband since the father of one of the twins is her r*pist, Oscar. The long series of events between 2006 and 2023 sees her twins grow up and a series of lies getting uncovered along the way, making for an interesting plot.
