FBI: International: How did the Fly Team rescue the American volunteers in Morocco?

In FBI: International season 4, episode 7, after the abduction, Raines and Smitty interviewed Camille, the volunteer who wasn't kidnapped because she returned early. They learned crucial details about Guiding Hands, including the IRS investigation involving the non-profit's founder Emmy, and her husband, Mark.
The Moroccan police's theory, combined with other clues, led the team to initially believe that the abduction was done by local farmers who were suffering the effects of the recent earthquake in the area. The team got a ransom call demanding twenty million dollars in crypto, and the kidnappers sent a video proof of Mark alive.
Meanwhile, Emmy turned up at a nearby police station, claiming that she tried protecting her team but was hit in the head and woke up with everyone gone. Her inconsistent statements about the events leading to the kidnapping raised suspicions in Wes and Cameron's minds.
With Camille's information, the team pieced together that Emmy and Mark were using the nonprofit to avoid accountability for their IRS issues. Nevertheless, the FBI: International team had to still save the volunteers, and further investigation by Amanda and the technical team revealed that Russian mercenaries were behind the abductions.
They were also able to narrow down the mastermind of the operation, Arkady Federov, and located the potential hideout of the kidnappers. Although the initial plan was to wait for military backup, Emme's reckless social media post forced the team to speed up their rescue operation with just Wes, Raines, Smitty, and Vo in the field.
Using their training, teamwork, and Amanda's support from the command center, the Fly team neutralized the threat, rescued the hostages, and ensured everyone's safety.
Why were the American volunteers abducted?

The American volunteers were abducted by Russian mercenaries as part of a larger scheme to extort money from countries by kidnapping their aid workers. The technical team found a pattern in the kidnappings, with the previous one linked to Vietnamese aid workers.
The FBI: International team deduced that the reason these kidnappers go after aid workers is because they are vulnerable, easy targets, away from their families and home countries. They also figured out that the ransom demand was a smokescreen, and the Moroccan man behind the call was just a puppet to trick them into thinking that the abductors were local.
Although the kidnappers were Russian, Emmy and Mark were equally responsible for the incident. They harbored a martyr complex, seemingly believing that their 'sacrifice' could elevate their nonprofit organization’s status and distract from their ongoing legal troubles with the IRS.
This is the reason why they even were in the High Atlas Mountains, a region that was restricted to foreigners by the Morrocan government. Further, Emmy lied about how the abduction went down, trying to portray herself as a hero.
Peter, another rescued worker, and Camille's brother revealed at the end that Mark and Emmy both tried to run away, and Mark was shot. Emmy still kept running, and that is how she ended up at the police station.
Emmy also complicated things with her social media post, revealing the entire rescue plan of the FBI: International team which forced them to speed up the mission and go without any backup.
Mark also tried to hold Peter hostage when both of them were being rescued by Wes, once again tapping into his martyr complex and demanding that every person on the compound be saved. Wes had to threaten and punch him, for him to let go of Peter, and then both of them were rescued along with the other hostages.
Cameron and Wes talk about the past

Although FBI: International season 4 episode 7 did not feature many scenes involving the personal lives of the Fly Team, the audience did catch a glimpse of the growing connection between Wes and Cameron.
Wes saved Cameron from almost walking in on a bomb set up by the kidnappers at the first location that they believed to be their hideout. Later, while overseeing the surveillance of the compound, they talked about Wes's past, and how he was unable to save his partner in a previous hostage situation.
Even though it was not mentioned explicitly, fans could see that Wes still harbors the guilt of not being able to save his partner. Towards the end of the episode, the Team celebrated their win, with Wes buying them drinks as a 'rookie' of the team. The episode ended with a toast by Smitty, who dedicated it "to all those who lost their lives in the line of duty".
The next episode of FBI: International will be released on December 10, 2024, and will be available the next day on Paramount+.
