The latest episode of FBI season 7, titled Détente, was released on CBS on October 29, 2024. The episode brings together television’s favorite agents once again as they conduct a thorough investigation and conclude a case after several bombs go off in NYC.

The episode opens with two siblings, Hugo Soto and Javi. Javi enters a store and Hugo starts flirting with a girl outside the store. As he and the girl walk slightly away, the store is demolished by a bomb blast.

Javi is gravely injured and immediately hospitalized. Special Agents Maggie and Omar "OA" Zidan reach the crime spot. Thus begins a complicated investigation that presents several twists along the way. Episode 3 of FBI season 7 also gives viewers a peek into the agents’ personal lives.

FBI season 7 episode 3 highlights

New York is shocked by repeated bombing

Once Maggie and OA reach the crime spot, they swiftly deduce that the store manager is running an illegal gambling business at the back. A notebook listing several names is found. The agents go to the hospital to meet Soto. The grieving brother admits to his involvement in the gambling and helps the agents to decode the names mentioned in the notebook.

As the latest episode of FBI season 7 progresses, several other bombs go off across New York. The agents conclude that a violent gang war over turf has broken out. However, this theory is disproved when Maggie and OA come across an attacker who is not affiliated with any gang.

The culprit is a surprising one

As ASAC Jubal intensifies the investigation into the lone wolf, Agent Scola, and his new partner track him down. The agents capture the hired mercenary when the latter is on his way to collect his payment. He is immediately brought in.

Upon probing into the suspect’s phone, it becomes clear that he has been taking orders from clients through an app, which is designed by a private security firm called Pyramid Security. As the previous episode showed, OA has a friend who works there. OA takes his help to find out who the client could be.

The twist of episode 3 of FBI season 7 is that the client is the billionaire Fernando Perez’s son, referred to as ‘Junior’ in the episode. Perez himself was the prime suspect in the case. Maggie and the others speculated that he may have orchestrated the bombings to force people to evacuate Jackson Heights, a property he has been trying to buy of late.

Junior gets trapped

Junior is captured by the Agents when he is on his way to deposit some cash (this request was relayed to him from the FBI itself, using the phone of the lone wolf). When he is brought in for interrogation, he does not utter a word.

However, Perez states that Junior is absolutely incapable of masterminding the bombings. After all, he is a grossly incompetent person, he says. Jubal shrewdly plays Perez’s statement to Junior. Infuriated, the latter admits to the crime.

It becomes clear that Junior designed all those bombings in a bid to show his father that he indeed was competent. As he puts it, he did not want his father's love but thought he deserved his respect.

The ending of the latest episode of FBI season 7 has another twist. As Perez is holding a press conference outside the FBI office telling the media that he has disowned his son, Hugo shows up with a gun. Before Maggie can placate him, he guns Perez down.

OA has a new confidential informant

The previous episode of FBI season 7 showed OA helping his friend Clay carry out an illicit espionage operation. Clay is an acquaintance from before and together they used to work in the army. Clay now works for the private firm Pyramid Security.

It is Clay who helps OA trace the lone wolf’s calls to Perez’s residence. However, since Clay himself works for an unethical company, OA could not formally acknowledge his contribution. Later on, taking Maggie’s advice, OA tells SAC Isobel about it.

Isobel instructs OA to list Clay as his confidential informant. OA would keep getting help from him. In return, the FBI would not disturb Clay's company.

Scola has a new partner

Ever since Tiff’s departure, Agent Scola has been paired with several partners in FBI season 7. In the latest episode, his partner is an agent named Chris who has just moved in from SWAT.

As the episode starts, Chris comes across as an overconfident agent who lets his professionalism get sidelined by his reckless attitude. However, as the episode progresses, he is humbled when he makes a mistake that could have cost the FBI dearly had OA not been there to rectify it.
