As the episode opens, a park ranger named Desiree Cole is shot dead by a masked assassin. Initial suspicion falls on Drew Ambrie, Hope’s former partner with whom she had a bitter break-up.

However, Drew tells Agents Maggie and OA that Hope, quite fierce and outspoken by nature, would often engage with online bullies who would make queerphobic statements. One particular username, Scroll Lord, catches the agents’ attention.

The username belongs to Brandon Halford, whom the agents track down later. Through Halford, an online community is discovered which is solely focused on spreading hatred against minorities.

Plus, it is also found that they believe that the National Park Service has become a predatory organization that uses gay people to traffic children. As a result, this online community sees itself as a savior by trying to harass or even outright kill park rangers.

As the latest episode of FBI season 7 progresses, a cryptic user named Calvin is identified. Calvin uses his online presence to spread hatred against minorities, and his followers, millions in numbers, take inspiration from his messages to cause violence.

The name of Duke Ducoyle comes up as he is the person who cracked Calvin’s last enigmatic message which kickstarted a chain of violence against minorities. As he is brought in for questioning, Isobel is sure that Duke is Calvin.

Meanwhile, the reports show that Halford was not the shooter after all. By this point, Agent Ortiz has decoded Calvin’s latest message. As the agents reach the location Ortiz got after cracking the message, they come across a man who tries to flee the spot.

Maggie and OA go after the man. After an intense pursuit, the culprit is revealed to be Phil Ambrie, Drew’s father. It becomes clear by the end of FBI season 7 episode 7 that Phil committed the murders out of homophobic spite.

Drew is surprised that her father killed her former partner. However, she recounts that after her mother died, she embraced the love of the community, while her father clung on to the hatred he had for gay people.

The ending of the episode brings the two face to face. Phil insists that the bar where the rangers used to meet had a basement where children would be stored and then trafficked. When he sees that the basement is empty, he realizes his mistake.

Further, he also cautions the agents that Calvin’s group had planned to attack the same bar. Before Phil can finish, the bar is showered with bullets. Scola, Maggie, and OA get ready with their guns, and OA’s quick wit saves the day as he brings the shooter down.

Back at the FBI office, Isobel has Duke detained. The latter threatens her, shaking her up. That night, when she returns home, she has her gun with her. Thus, FBI season 7 episode 7 ends on a somber note.
