What happens in the latest episode?
Episode 7 opens with Desiree Cole, a park ranger, getting fatally shot by a masked assassin. Though initial suspicion falls on Drew Ambrie, Hope’s ex-partner, it soon becomes clear that Desiree fell victim to an online hate group that specifically attacks minorities.
Gradually, the name Brandon Halford comes up. Halford posts queerphobic statements online, and with whom Desiree, a lesbian, had a heated argument. When he is brought in for questioning, the online community headed by the mysterious entity named Calvin is exposed.
However, FBI season 7 episode 7 presents a twist: it is eventually found out by the agents that the shooter was Phil Ambrie, Drew’s father. The community headed by Calvin, of which Phil is a part, believes that the National Park Service uses gay people to secretly traffick children.
As a result, they go after park rangers and engage in anti-minority acts of violence. As Phil and Drew have an intense exchange in Maggie and OA’s presence, a gunman shows up, firing quite a few rounds of bullets at them. OA’s quick reflexes save the say.
Elsewhere at the FBI office, Isobel has Duke Ducoyle detained because she is sure that the latter is Calvin. Duke threatens Isobel and she carries her gun when she returns home that night. The episode does not reveal the fate of Duke.
