FBI season 7 premiered with its first episode on October 15, 2024, on CBS. Titled Abandoned, the episode shows the FBI agents back in action as they try to figure out why a particular Iranian immigrant family is being targeted by highly trained assassins.
The FBI season 7 premiere revolves mostly around the Amini family, who migrated to the USA in 2005. As the story progresses, conspiracies involving the CIA regarding a high-profile assassination come to the fore, resulting in a direct face-off between the FBI and the CIA.
The episode opens with a GoPro camera shot that shows the bombing of a car in which Tariq Amini is killed. Later on, Tariq’s friend Cyrus is also shot in the head right in front of Special Agents Scola and Tiffany. However, at the end of the episode, thanks to Maggie’s intervention, Nadia and Sarah, Tariq’s wife and daughter, respectively, are safe.
FBI Season 7 premiere ending: Nadia and Sarah are safe thanks to Maggie
An elaborate conspiracy lies at the heart of FBI season 7 episode 1. In 2005, the CIA contacted Tariq and Nadia Amini, and Cyrus, and asked them to assassinate a member of the Iranian Secret Police. In exchange, they were promised citizenship of the USA, where they could have a more liberal future. The trio did the same and left Tehran for America for good.
However, due to circumstances left unexplained in the FBI season 7 premiere, the CIA now wants to wash its hands of the aforementioned assassination. As a result, each member of the Amini family, and Cyrus, are targeted. Tariq is killed while going to work driving his car, and Cyrus is gunned down in his laundry shop.
When Nadia exposes the truth to Special Agents Maggie and Zidan, they immediately move her and her daughter Sarah to a safe house. The CIA, however, sends fresh gunmen to the spot, who are killed by the capable FBI agents.
Following the shootout, Maggie arranges for a safer accommodation for Sarah and Nadia, and she also promises them that they would finally get the safety they were promised years ago. Thus, defying direct orders, Maggie sends Nadia and Sarah to safety.
Why does Maggie defy a direct order?
The FBI season 7 premiere is bookended by shots of a senior CIA officer interrogating the FBI team. As the episode progresses, it becomes clear that Maggie has disobeyed a direct order.
When the attempt on Nadia and Sarah’s life fails, Maggie and Zidan are informed that the CIA would like to question the agents, and the surviving members of the Amini family.
Maggie, however, chooses to ignore this order. As the plot builds up, Maggie ends up getting quite attached to Sarah, the bright young daughter of Nadia and Tariq. She also feels somewhat guilty that this Iranian family is now being targeted for something they were asked to do by the very organization now targeting them—the CIA.
Thus, Maggie sends them to safety, at a great personal risk. The consequence of this action is also shown in episode 1 of FBI season 7, as the episode ends with a fiery Maggie confronting the cold CIA interrogator.

The FBI season 7 premiere shows the exit of Agent Tiffany Wallace
Towards the beginning of the episode itself, it is made clear that the episode would show Agent Wallace’s last day on duty. Some explanation is provided by the character herself at the end of the episode, as she tells Maggie:
“I just wanted closure. I thought I’d get that after Hakim was gone. I didn’t.”
In the previous season, Agent Hobbs, Tiffany’s fellow agent with whom she was working undercover, was killed by a terrorist named Hakim Siran. She eventually managed to kill Hakimi but as FBI season 7 episode 1 shows, she is still reeling under the pain of having lost her co-worker in the line of duty.
The next episode of FBI season 7 will be released on October 22, 2024.
