Netflix's The Man with 1000 Kids was released on July 3, 2024. It tells the real-life story of Jonathan Meijer, a Dutchman who has donated his sperm to hundreds of families across the globe.
The synopsis of the docu-series reads:
"A group of families learn the charismatic man they had trusted is sperm donor to hundreds — or perhaps thousands — of other children across the world."
The Man with 1000 Kids probes into the actions of Jonathan Meijer which have potentially put the future of many children at risk. The docu-series interacts with several clients of Meijer's who feel cheated, and are now trying to hold the Dutchman accountable.
The Man with 1000 Kids: Has Jonathan Meijer fathered more than 1,000 children?
The title of this 3-part docu-series is not hyperbolic. Jonathan Meijer could actually be the father of 1,000 children, if not more.
The docu-series shows statements from several couples in and out of the Netherlands. They include Suzanne and Natalie, Laura and Kate, Joyce and John, among others. All of them are shocked by the fact that Jonathan Meijer also donated his sperm to other people who stayed nearby, and had lied to them about it. This action of the Dutchman has grave medical consequences.
After the couples found out about Jonathan Meijer's deceit, they moved to the court and took on a lengthy legal battle. In court, he claimed that he fathered nearly 600 children. But there is reason to suspect that the actual number is much higher.
Eve Wiley, a fertility fraud activist, insists that the the number of children Jonathan Meijer has fathered across the world could easily be 1,000, if not more. She says:
“So with Jonathan and [sperm bank] Cryos International, he’s going to Copenhagen once a month for four days for four years. That’s roughly 200 donations, and you can get about 15 straws of sperm per ejaculation."
She adds:
"If every straw makes a baby, that could be 3,000 potential children. That is just one sperm bank. And we know that he was in at least 11 sperm banks.”
Eve's statement in The Man with 1000 Kids has shocked viewers worldwide. She further says that Meijer has taken advantage of the fact that there is no international limit on how many clients a sperm donor can serve. Thus, it is very possible that Jonathan Meijer has fathered more than 1000 children worldwide.
Meijer, however, continues to live in denial, and has even called the trailer of The Man with 1000 Kids misleading, enraging people on the internet.
The actions of Meijer have very grave consequences. Since he has donated sperm to families living in close proximity, the future generations from these families might get involved in unwitting incest. This raises serious questions about the future of these generations.
Where is Jonathan Meijer now?
Apart from donating sperm, Meijer also posts vlogs and other videos on the internet regularly. A few days prior to this writing, he was in Zanzibar, a piece of information he himself gave out in one of his Youtube videos.
Meijer is a globe-trotter who goes to a variety of countries and donates his sperm to willing clients there. His irresponsible conduct has been exposed by The Man with 1000 Kids, distressing his former clients.
Director of the docu-series, Josh Allott, has told Tudum:
“I did meet [Jonathan] in order to speak to him about being in the documentary. We approached him a number of times to be interviewed and gave him a right to reply at the end. He refused to comment on any of the allegations in the series.”
The Man with 1000 Kids is currently streaming on Netflix.
