1) Rutherford led a double life, and his wife and children were clueless about his crimes
As discussed in the Betrayal podcast, Justin was a respected doctor in Berks County, Pennsylvania. He met his wife, Stacey Rutherford, when he was a medical student. Stacey was a single mother, and the pair settled down in Amity Township, Berks County, where he worked as a family doctor at Tower Health. Justin's family was clueless about his dark deeds, and they lived a picture-perfect life till his arrest.
2) He used a hidden camera in his bathroom to record undressed people
A 13-year-old boy uncovered a secret camera in Justin's bathroom while showering. When he reported it to the police, they investigated and tracked the camera back to Justin since he was the owner of the house. It was uncovered that Justin Rutherford recorded 2800 videos and 1400 still pictures of people undressing without their consent. Many of the videos and pictures were of underage children and teenagers.
3) He sexually abused two teenagers
When Justin was first arrested in 2021, two male teenagers came forward, accusing Justin of sexually assaulting them. One of the victims was a 17-year-old who alleged that Justin intoxicated him and then physically assaulted him. The other boy was a 16-year-old who claimed that Justin had been exploiting him for over five years.
4) Rutherford planned to get one of his victims killed
In a twisted turn of events, Justin Rutherford tried to get the 16-year-old victim killed to remove him as a witness. Justin planned the murder when he was under police custody. He planned the murder through a phone call from prison and even instructed the other person to wear gloves and proper clothing to avoid his DNA from being left at the crime scene.
Luckily, the police intercepted the calls and prevented the murder from taking place. However, this plan added to Justin's list of crimes as he was also charged with criminal solicitation to commit first-degree murder.
5) Justin Rutherford has been sentenced to a long prison term
Rutherford pleaded guilty to r*pe of an unconscious person, r*pe of a child, invasion of privacy, and sexual abuse of multiple children in October 2022. The plea was non-negotiable, and he was sentenced to prison for 26 years 10 months to 70 years, followed by 12 years of special probation.
Initially, Justin's wife, Stacey, was also named a defendant in his crimes; however, she absolved herself and her children by establishing no prior knowledge of his crimes.
