The murder of Pam Zimmerman brought the small community in Bloomington to a standstill in 2014. Zimmerman, a successful financial planner, had been shot to death in her office and had been found by her neighbor and friend, Julie Koh.

Pam had been engaged at the time of her murder which led the detectives to suspect her fiancé, ex-husband, and a client. The Dateline NBC episode titled Before Midnight showcases the horrific murder of Pam Zimmerman as it airs on July 20, 2024, at 10 p.m. EST. The official synopsis reads:

"A successful businesswoman and mother of three is found shot in her office; the investigation into her death leaves a family divided."

Five key details of Pam Zimmerman's murder explored

1) Pam Zimmerman was found dead with four gunshot wounds to her head

Pam Zimmerman had been unresponsive over calls and texts when her close ones started to worry for her safety. She had failed to return home on November 4, 2014, when her children discovered her bedroom empty. Pam’s fiancé, Scott Baldwin, had contacted her friend and neighbor, Julie Koh, who visited Pam's office to find her car parked in the parking lot.

According to Oxygen, Julie entered the building with Pam's manager, Ina Hess, and the two found Pam lying on the floor shot to death at the front desk. She had suffered four gunshot wounds - two to her chest, one to her head, and one to her back, per Rogers Sevastianos & Bante LLP.

2) The authorities suspected three men in Zimmerman's life

The discovery of Pam Zimmerman's body at the 2103 E. Washington Street office, led investigators on the hunt for suspects. They suspected that she had been killed by someone who was acquainted with her. The authorities narrowed down on the last person to see Pam - her long-time client, Eldon Whitlow.

The other two suspects were her then-fiancé, Scott Baldwin, and her ex-husband, Kirk Zimmerman. While Pam had been pursuing a whirlwind romance with Baldwin, she had allegedly been in the middle of financial issues relating to custody with Kirk Zimmerman.

3) Pam's ex-husband, Kirk Zimmerman, became the prime suspect in the case

Pam's ex-husband, Kirk Zimmerman, had become the prime suspect after Baldwin and Whitlow's alibis had checked out and they ruled as suspects. Kirk and Pam had had their divorce in 2012.

John Rogers, Kirk's defense lawyer, revealed to Dateline:

“Kirk had a full pension, guaranteed for life, which he could have taken at any point and time. He was making $95,000 working for State Farm. He had in excess of $240,000 in his 401k.”

Kirk had been paying for child support which had left him in financial distress.

4) Kirk Zimmerman was arrested for Pam Zimmerman's murder based on circumstantial evidence

The investigating authorities found gunshot residue on the gear shift of Kirk Zimmerman's car along with messages that had been deleted from Kirk's phone. Per court documents, the surveillance footage from Pam's office showcased a car similar to one that Kirk owned.

While Kirk insisted that he had been at home the night of the murder, his girlfriend reportedly shared that nobody had answered the door when she arrived at his house the same night.

5) Kirk Zimmerman was acquitted of all the charges

Episode 39 of Season 27 showcases the details of Kirk Zimmerman's murder trial wherein 60 witnesses took the stand. The five-week-long trial resulted in an eight-hour window when the jury decided Kirk was not guilty of the murder of Pam Zimmerman.

As per Oxygen, their daughter, Heidi Zimmerman, reportedly shared,

“It was just this huge relief just to know that our dad wouldn’t be going away for something he didn’t do."

However, justice was never served, as the law authorities never found Zimmerman's actual killer following the acquittal of the prime suspect in the case, her ex-husband, Kirk.
