The conviction of Thomas Randolph took its twists and turns as he faced trial twice for the murder of Sharon Causse Randolph and Michael Miller. Sharon was Thomas' sixth wife and the fourth who had been deceased during his lifetime, thereby raising suspicions of foul play.

As investigations went on, the detectives alleged that Thomas, who earned the moniker of The Black Widower, had planned the murder-for-hire plot for insurance money.

The three-part series, The Black Widower: The Six Wives of Thomas Randolph, brings the shocking details of the double murders as it airs on July 15, 2024, at 9 pm EST on Investigation Discovery. The official synopsis reads,

"Over eight years, the infamous Black Widower Thomas Randolph stands trial for the murder of his wife and her handyman; the victims' families are ready to see justice served, but a surprise ruling from the Nevada Supreme Court threatens everything."

Five details of Sharon Causse Randolph's murder explored

1) Sharon Causse was shot to death in her Las Vegas home

On May 8, 2008, Sharon and Thomas returned home at night from a romantic date celebrating Mother's Day. While Thomas parked the car, Sharon entered their Las Vegas home to allegedly find an intruder inside their 6517 Rancho Sante Fe Drive home.

According to the New York Daily News, Thomas Randolph found his wife, Sharon, shot to death in the hallway entrance to the home. Sharon Causse had been lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to her head.

2) The crime scene was allegedly staged to look like a home invasion

In his initial interactions with law enforcement, Thomas Randolph mentioned in May 2008 that he had spotted a shadow. Randolph had allegedly encountered a man in a black ski mask inside their house when he found Sharon shot and grabbed his 9mm handgun.

Thomas was heard narrating in the recorded 911 call,

"I don't remember if I seen the handle in his sweatshirt or if I seen the handle in his pants, but he was doing something, going for something. He kind of rushed up on me a little bit, and that's when I just pushed him, boom boom boom."

Thomas Randolph shot the unknown intruder, Michael Miller, five times in the garage.

3) Sharon Causse's murder was found to be a murder-for-hire plot

As the investigations into Sharon Causse's murder proceeded, the authorities found eerie similarities between the deaths of Thomas' second wife, Becky Gault, and his sixth wife, Sharon. The authorities dug deeper into Thomas' background and any possible links with the alleged intruder, Michael, when they suspected a murder-for-hire plot.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Thomas had met Michael Miller at a convenience store a year earlier, and the two struck up a relationship wherein Miller also served as his handyman.

4) Thomas Randolph had allegedly arranged for the kill to collect Sharon's life insurance money

Thomas was believed to have killed his wife, Sharon Causse, over her insurance money. The prosecutors alleged that Sharon had $300,000 in a total of five life insurance policies that Thomas had taken out for her soon after their marriage.

According to The US Sun, Thomas received a $500,000 insurance payout after his second wife, Becky Gault, died from a gunshot to her head on November 7, 1986. Given the circumstances, the prosecutors alleged that Thomas employed Michael to murder Sharon but turned on him during the crime to avoid loose ends.

According to the Deseret News, Thomas Randolph was arrested in January 2009 from his mother's Utah home. He was charged with murder and conspiracy charges for the deaths of Sharon Causse Randolph and Michael James Miller, for which he was found guilty in July 2017. Randolph was sentenced to death.

However, the Nevada Supreme Court overturned his conviction in 2020, owing to his appeal. He was found guilty of all charges in his retrial in 2023 and has thus been incarcerated for 60 years to life in Lovelock Correctional Center, per the Nevada Department of Corrections.
