Exploring Gabi and Sir's past in Found season 1
As a teenager, Gabi gets kidnapped by her high school teacher, Hugh Evans, whom she only refers to as Sir (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) in the series. She is held captive for over a year in a rural cabin before escaping. This experience leaves a profound effect on Gabi, making her determined to help other missing individuals. In the present time, she operates a search firm for missing people called Mosely and Associates (M&A).
Gabi harbors a dark secret in Found season 1—she tracks down her former kidnapper and has been holding him captive in her basement, thus, reversing their power dynamic. Gabi thinks she has the upper hand over Sir, but the truth is that he enjoys their dynamic far more than she can ever comprehend.
Sir chooses to stay chained in the basement, despite being capable of escaping at any point, as he gets a thrill out of feeling like Gabi needs him. And she does. Gabi relies on his insight as a kidnapper to solve missing persons cases. Their twisted partnership forms the crux of the series.
Throughout Found season 1, Gabi deals with the guilt of keeping this big secret from her team. What happened to Dashika in Found season 1?
In the show's first episode, Gabi's organization takes on the case of Dashika Jones, a young girl missing since two weeks. During their investigation, her team learns that the teenage girl was physically abused before going missing. They speak to her grandmother Lily, who alerts them about Dashika's father, Kareem.
But, Kareem is proven to be innocent. Gabi's team learns that his partner, April, is the one who left burn marks on Dashika's arm for talking back to her. In the end, they find out that Lily had abducted her granddaughter in order to protect her from the abuse. Dashika, at last, is reunited with her father.
What is Lacey's connection to Sir?
Gabi and Lacey first met almost 20 years ago when they were both held captive together by Sir. Lacey, whose real name is Bella, was kidnapped as a child to give Gabi a companion in captivity, as Sir explained to Gabi. However, the two managed to break free not long after by attacking their captor.
In Found season 1 episode 8, Sir figures out that Lacey is in fact Bella after hearing her voice from the basement. He admits to Gabi that he hates Lacey for "destroying his family" and promises to kill the latter if Gabi ever ends their so-called "partnership" or turns him over to the police.
In the penultimate episode, Gabi gets kidnapped while solving Aisha's case. Dhan, who knows about Sir, visits the basement to ask for his help in finding Gabi. Sir's intuition proves helpful as Dhan and the team rescue Gabi along with Estrella, one of the other kidnapped victims. Unaware that Gabi has been rescued, Sir escapes from the basement and goes in search of Gabi himself in the finale episode.
In the show's climax, he turns up at Lacey's house and watches from behind the door as Lacey disconnects a call from Gabi. The season ends with Lacey's fate hanging in the balance.
Found season 2 sets the stage for an intense cat-and-mouse game with Sir out in the world, determined to disrupt Gabi and Lacey's lives. The second season also focuses on Gabi's attempts to rebuild her relationships with Lacey, Dhan, Margaret, and Zeke, after her betrayal.
