From season 2 ended on June 25, 2023, and the show has been renewed for a third season, premiering on September 24, 2024. The series, from MGM+ and Epix, follows a supernatural town that traps travelers. A family becomes stranded there and must adjust to life with the town's existing residents.
However, the town has its share of mysteries and dangers which everyone must grapple with. This includes the mystery of how one can escape from the town back to the outside world, which Tabitha Matthews managed to do at the end of From season 2.
From season 2 explores the possibility of escaping the town
Tabitha Matthews is Jim’s wife and mother to Julie, Ethan, and the late Thomas Matthews. In the final episode of From season 2, Julie, Randall, and Marielle fall into comas and are tortured by unseen forces. Sheriff Boyd Stevens believes the torture is caused by a music box playing a creepy nursery rhyme and rushes to destroy it. Meanwhile, Tabitha and Jade venture into a dangerous forest to uncover the mystery behind the children and the symbols in their visions.
Jade goes on to find a symbol in a tunnel that triggers another vision that shows children lying on rocks and whispering the phrase “anghkooey”. Tabitha has her own visions that set her on the path to a lighthouse.
The big reveal at the end of the episode occurs when Tabitha gets pushed out of the lighthouse and finds herself in a hospital in the outside world, having managed to escape the mysterious town.
From season 2 sets up many mysteries
From season 2 focuses considerably on the mysterious children that Tabitha saw in her vision. These visions were also once seen by the mother Victor, a peculiar Colony House resident who'd been trapped in the town as a child.
From season 2 episode 8 showed a flashback sequence where Victor's mother went to the same lighthouse as Tabitha to find a way out of the town, only for her to never return.
The Boy in White, who appears to be the leader of the children in the visions, pushes Tabitha out of the lighthouse after she reaches it. He has also helped other residents like Boyd, Ethan, Sara, and Victor, acting like a guardian angel. Another key location in From is the bottle tree, introduced in the season 1 finale, with its true purpose revealed by Victor in season 2.
According to Victor, the Bottle Tree is a special faraway tree that can transport anyone who enters it to the lighthouse. The lighthouse is not typically visible to the people trapped in the mysterious town, making the Bottle Tree one of the few conduits the place has to the outside world.
Another mystery is the word “anghkooey” said by the children in Tabitha's visions. The word doesn't have an exact translation, and its exact meaning has yet to be revealed, but it could be a reference to the Celtic mythology figure Ankou, who's the personification of death.
While From season 2 ended with the reveal that it is possible to escape the mysterious town, there are still plenty of horrors to be faced by the people trapped there. From season 3 will premiere on September 24, 2024.
