The man behind both the stories of Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, George R.R. Martin, whose acclaimed fantasy work is behind the creation of two of the most successful HBO shows of all time, has claimed in his blog that he is going to get candid and reveal everything "wrong" with House of the Dragons.

The author has not been very critical of the adaptations up till now, which makes this declaration rather jarring. The second season of House of the Dragon, meanwhile, received its fair share of criticism from fans, especially because the finale ended on a huge cliffhanger, and not a very rewarding one as nothing of great importance happened.

As per his latest blog post, the Fire and Blood author will soon disclose his criticism of the series and perhaps his tips on what can be improved about the show.

What did George R.R. Martin say about House of the Dragon?

While the author has yet to comment anything about House of the Dragon, which achieved great viewership from the very start of its second season, he wrote at the end of his blog post about a Santa Fe festival that he has things he wants to say about the Game of Thrones spinoff.

George R.R. Martin wrote:

"I do not look forward to other posts I need to write, about everything that’s gone wrong with HOUSE OF THE DRAGON… but I need to do that too, and I will. Not today, though."

He further added:

"I have had a pretty wretched year as well, one full of stress, anger, conflict, and defeat. I need to talk about some of that, and I will, I will… I was away from my computer traveling from July 15 to August 15, so a lot of things that needed saying did not get said."

The second part was a more personal revelation, but this could be what helped the author decide that he wanted to talk about HotD.

What is the criticism against House of the Dragon?

While the first season did not really start the conversation about criticism, the second season felt much flatter because of HBO's decision to shift the final two episodes to the third season. This made the finale feel like a penultimate episode, disappointing millions of fans around the world.

As it was the second season of the show, fans were also perhaps expecting more big sequences and some more defining stories. Instead, the second season advanced the narrative mostly through dialogue-driven drama. While this separated the spinoff from Game of Thrones, which had a habit of relying on big moments for big developments, it also put HotD behind in terms of excitement.

Another running criticism of the series has been its lack of humor, which has been noticeable to many fans, especially after the end of season 2 brought forth some comedic moments, giving a glimpse at what fans were missing out on.

However, these criticisms may not align with what George R.R. Martin has to say about the series. After all, he wrote the story and has something else on his mind. Hopefully, we will find out soon.

Both the seasons of House of the Dragon are available for streaming on Max.
