Ryan Murphy's Grotesquerie season 1 episode 6 dropped on FX on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, continuing Detective Lois' seemingly endless hunt for the killer. The new episode brings the detective a step closer to finding the identity of the murderer who has been terrorizing the town with grotesque crimes.
Previously, in Grotesquerie season 1, Detective Lois was back on the chase after the killer alone after Sister Megan got injured. The nun was shot early on in the previous episode, causing her to be rushed to the hospital with no clear news about whether she would recover.
While Sister Megan is unconscious at the hospital, a new murder scene terrorizes the town and Lois. She found several dead people at a maternity house, with the bodies cut open in the stomach like in a cesarean section.
However, the babies are nowhere to be found. Following new leads, the detective found herself at an orange grove where a woman was holding a newborn wrapped in bloody newspaper.
On Wednesday's double-header, Grotesquerie season 1 episode 6 ended with Detective Lois gunning down a man in a mask who was about to slit her throat. He could be the titular killer, but before that is confirmed or the man's face is revealed, the episode ends.

The man under the mask remains the million-dollar question at the end of Grotesquerie season 1 episode 6
While Sister Megan fights for her life at the hospital in Grotesquerie season 1 episode 5, the killer is still on the loose, and his latest crime is murdering several pregnant women at a maternity house with their stomachs cut open. The previous episode ended with Detective Lois finding an older woman with a bloodied baby at the orange grove. More about the said woman is revealed in episode 6.
The sixth episode of the newest FX horror series opened with Lois talking to a doctor who tells her that there's no way the woman she found at the orangery has given birth to the baby, contrary to what the woman claims. When Lois talks to the lady, who claims that she is Maisie DeBroses Montgomery, the woman keeps using the word "glorious," which piques the detective's interest.
In the end, Maisie sends the detective to the woman from her past, the human trafficker she put behind bars—Glorious McKall. Lois finds Glorious, who has been expecting her in a trailer park nearby. It turns out that Glorious was let out when she entered witness protection after she made a deal with Interpol to reveal the inner workings of the baby traders from Istanbul.
Grotesquerie season 1 episode 6 reveals that Glorious isn't the killer, but she was the one who sent Maisie to the detective before the baby is sold off in Modesto. All hell breaks loose when a couple of Glorious cronies try to fire their weapons, leading to the detective finding an Uzi in Glorious' purse.
It's when the former pimp reveals that the killer fancies himself a prophet, although a false one, and Maisie is one of his congregants.
Fast forward to the near end of episode 6, Lois and a tac team show up at an abandoned plant where they find it empty except for some women hooked up on a machine. They are being milked like cows, and their breast milk is used to directly feed the babies.
As Mozart's Requiem is playing in the background, Lois follows a darkened pathway within the building, where she discovers a wall of photos. It looks eerily similar to Sister Megan's wall of photos in the Grotesquerie season 1 premiere.
And just as her focus is on the photos on the wall, a man with his face covered appears behind her with a knife to her throat. Lois suddenly spins around and shoots and kills the man before she leans down to take off the mask.
The detective has seen the man behind the mask, but before his face is revealed to the audience, the scene fades to black, and the episode ends. Episode 6 ended on a cliffhanger and the million-dollar question: Who's the man behind the mask who tried to kill Lois?
The next episode will likely reveal the person's identity and whether he's the killer or simply one of the people helping the real serial killer taunt the detective.
Grotesquerie season 1 episode 6 reveals Nurse Redd's connection to Lois
While poring over evidence at home before they raided the abandoned plant, Nurse Redd visits Lois and reveals her connection to the detective over shots of Vodka. It turns out that Nurse Redd was bored with her life, so she decided to attend the detective's husband Marshall's lectures. She became obsessed with him, and over drinks, Marshall opened up about his family woes.
Nurse Redd reveals to the detective that after hearing Marshall's problems, she only wants to make him happy, and it is implied that they had an affair before Marshall was comatose.
After hearing the nurse's confessions, Lois threatens her with a gun to her head and asks her to leave the house and never get close to her husband again.
Sister Megan wakes up in Grotesquerie season 1 episode 6
Sister Megan is out of sorts throughout Grotesquerie season 1 episode 6, which is why Detective Lois is without her sidekick. The nun is still at the hospital, and from what Lois tells Father Charlie in episode 5, the doctors are uncertain if Sister Megan will have a full recovery.
However, in the final scenes of episode 6, as the possible killer holds a knife in Lois' throat, the detective goes over the alibis of the people who could be the killer.
Ed Laclan is with Merritt at home, Nurse Redd appears to be in Marshall's bed at the hospital, and Sister Megan is lying in the hospital bed and happens to just wake up. It appears that Sister Megan will be back in action in the next episodes, with her seemingly making a recovery after getting shot.
