Grotesquerie season 1 episode 7 dropped on FX on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, bringing fans the first of many twists its creators have promised. The new episode will have viewers question what happened in the last six episodes of the crime mystery series.
Previously, in Grotesquerie season 1, Sister Megan is still in the hospital after getting shot, so Detective Lois has to investigate the new murder on her own. Following the murders of the pregnant women in episode 5, the show's sixth episode sees the detective looking for the missing newborns. She found them in an abandoned milk bottling plant, and while investigating the area, the suspected killer arrived. Episode 6 ended as Lois de-masked the potential Mr. Grotesquerie.
In episode 7, it's confirmed that the man who wanted to kill Lois was Father Charlie. However, someone else is still a threat to her life—Father Charlie's accomplice. Detective Lois didn't die in Grotesquerie season 1 episode 7, although it started to appear that way after Sister Megan stabbed her multiple times. However, a twist ending reveals that Lois has been in a coma this whole time and is in the process of being taken off life support.

Did Detective Lois die in Grotesquerie season 1 episode 7?
The episode 7 teaser of Ryan Murphy's Grotesquerie teased something big happening to Detective Lois Tryon. One scene shows the detective battered and bloody and aiming a gun at someone. The newly released episode 7 shows what happened to the detective.
The show's game-changing hour starts with Lois sharing a meal with Merritt and Eddie at a restaurant. Their conversation begins with Merritt and Eddie telling the detective they are in love and will be living together. However, it turns ugly when Lois implies something happened between her and Eddie Laclan. She also starts getting nasty with Merritt's weight, calling her daughter a "lost cause."
Lois walks out, and fast-forward to the 25-minute mark of the episode, Lois is cooking at home. Sister Megan is there, appearing fully healed after being shot, helping herself to Lois' food. While their conversation starts innocent enough, Lois soon begins a monologue, connecting the dots about the murders, Father Charlie, and Sister Megan's quick recovery.
She then accuses the nun of being in cahoots with the late priest, which Sister Megan denies several times. But when Lois continues with her accusations, despite the nun trying to lighten the mood and change the subject, she resorts to plan B—stabbing Lois with a kitchen knife.
This sequence is the same scene in the episode 7 teaser, where Lois looks bloody and battered. She and Sister Megan get into a fight in the seventh episode, and Megan is seen repeatedly stabbing Lois in the body. The camera then zooms in on Lois' almost lifeless body on the floor.
However, a scene towards the end of Grotesquerie season 1 episode 7 reveals whether Lois lives or dies. As Sister Megan tries to pull the trigger to kill her, the detective swipes at the nun's feet. Her quick action caused Sister Megan to fall, hitting her head on the floor and dying.
Detective Lois didn't die at this point in Grotesquerie season 1 episode 7, but it was Sister Megan who tragically passed, at least in this alternate reality, which turns out to be a dream.
Lois exposes Sister Megan as a very twisted sister
Everyone believes that Father Charlie is the killer who has been taunting Lois and the whole town with horrific killings in Grotesquerie season 1. His face is plastered on the local newspaper, with the headline calling him the stone-cold killer. The rest of the police force also celebrated Detective Lois because they believed she had already solved the case.
However, the detective has more mysteries to uncover about Mr. Grotesquerie. For one, she firmly believes that he's not the only one working to commit the murders. Lois thinks Father Charlie has an accomplice, someone with background experience on how to kill, something she tells Sister Megan during their conversation at home.
While talking over Sister Megan, she becomes suspicious about how fast the nun recovered. She thinks it wasn't a coincidence that the bullet didn't hit any major artery, almost like shooting the nun was a performance or a show. She also points out the nun's red-soled shoes, likening it to blood, and said:
"It was said you could tell a sinner by the blood on the bottom of their shoes."
Lois continues asking Sister Megan questions. She also accusingly points out Megan's relationship with the late priest, her close involvement in the murder case, and the murder wall she let Lois see in the Grotesquerie premiere. While Megan starts looking a bit rattled, Lois continues saying:
"I mean, he [Father Charlie] could wield a carving knife, but in order to pull this off, he would need an accomplice. He would need help. And what he needed he got—a twisted sister."
When Lois continues with her theories implicating Sister Megan, she resorts to screaming bloody "Blasphemy" and speaking in tongues. She appears, as Lois described, "twisted," and runs towards Lois with a kitchen knife. The scene ends with Detective Lois and Sister Megan in a violent, knock-down fight.
Grotesquerie season 1 episode 7 ends with a mind-blowing twist
As Sister Megan repeatedly stabs Detective Lois with a kitchen knife, the detective appears lifeless. However, a major twist happens. Grotesquerie season 1 episode 7 suddenly shifts into a different reality, where the Grotesquerie's main characters have different roles to play.
Instead of Marshall in the coma, it is Lois attached to the tubes with her life on the line. She is also missing from the restaurant scene from the first scene of Grotesquerie season 1 episode 7. Instead, Marshall was the one talking to a now long-haired Eddie and Merritt. Additionally, Merritt is successful, and Eddie is not an orderly but works at Cinnabon for minimum wage. In a shocking turn, Lois is the adulterous one, and she has been sleeping with Eddie for the past two years.
Sister Megan isn't a nun but a detective who worked with Lois when she was still well. The only storyline that is the same is Marshall's affair with Nurse Redd, although she's not a nurse in this version of reality.
Earlier, in Grotesquerie season 1 episode 7, after Lois' fiery exchange with Merritt and Eddie, she went to the hospital to have Marshall taken off life support. By the end of the episode, the reality flips, and it is Marshall who wants Lois to die. Father Charlie is also not a priest this time but a doctor. He's Lois' doctor who will take her off life support.
However, in another twist of events, Grotesquerie season 1 episode 7 ends with Lois waking up from the coma after she almost flatlines. Simultaneously, in her subconscious, she pulls the trigger aimed at Sister Megan, blowing the nun's head off.
