Grotesquerie season 1 episode 8 drops next Wednesday, October 23, 2024, but ahead of its release, FX has given a quick preview of what's to come for the beloved Detective Lois Tryon.

Episode 7 in Grotesquerie marked a shocking turn of events in Ryan Murphy's latest crime mystery, leaving viewers wondering what happened. It prompted the question of whether everything that happened from the show's premiere down to the middle of episode 7 was a lie after Lois turned out to be in a coma in real life. Per the previous episode's events, all the murders were just Lois's dreams.

Viewers see Detective Lois trying to uncover crime mysteries before. However, FX's preview of Grotesquerie season 1 episode 8, published on YouTube on October 20, suggests that she will be figuring out the mystery of her own life. The entire show seems to have changed, and Lois has some big questions, including the meaning of the "dreams" she had while in a coma.

Grotesquerie had a late-entry plot twist in episode 7, and things are far from the same for Detective Lois Tryon. Unlike what was depicted throughout the first six episodes of the series, it wasn't Marshall who was in a coma, but the detective herself.

Episode 7 ended with Lois waking up from her coma, and as seen in the preview for next week's episode, the detective will make a full recovery. However, she is not without questions. The Grotesquerie season 1 episode 8 teaser starts with a scene that pictures the episode's official logline, which reads:

"Lois accepts the help of a specialist."

The detective meets her therapist, and it appears that he is helping her make sense of her new reality. As scenes of Lois in crime scenes play out, the therapist can be heard saying:

"You were a homicide detective dealing with the most unspeakable crimes."

From her interaction with the therapist, it could be possible that Lois is confused about who she is, or she may have gotten amnesia. The same can be inferred when Megan tells Lois all about her as if the detective has forgotten that they are work colleagues. A car scene in the Grotesquerie season 1 episode 8 teaser sees Megan and Lois, with the former telling the detective:

"I was your partner. I trusted you. I'm not your enemy."

Lois' own words also tease more mystery about her own life. She told her therapist that she feels "stuck in a maze," which she further described as "an awful, endless nightmare."

More murders for Lois to solve in Grotesquerie season 1 episode 8?

Lois being in a coma in real life instead of Marshall isn't the only character plot twist from the previous episode. The rest of the Grotesquerie characters also have new roles in an alternate reality—Merritt is a successful career woman, Eddie has been cheating with Lois for the past two years, Father Charlie is a doctor, and Marshall is very much alive.

Sister Megan appears to be still working with Lois in solving crime mysteries before her coma, but she's not a nun anymore. Instead, she's Lois' partner in the force. Moreover, the final words from her therapist as he turns off the recorder during their session, as seen in the Grotesquerie season 1 episode 8 preview, tease what's next for the detective. He said:

"Are you ready to go back to the real world?"

It appears that while other characters are different, there isn't a lot that changed about Lois from the version of her in her dreams. Grotesque murders are still very much part of her in real life. If the real world that the therapist is referring to involves Lois embracing her detective role, viewers can expect more murder mysteries to be solved in the next episode.

Catch Grotesquerie season 1 episode 8 live on FX next Wednesday, October 23, or watch it via Hulu the day after its television premiere. Previous episodes of the show are also available for streaming on Hulu.
