Pablo Ibar was found guilty of the murders of Butch Casey, Sharon Anderson, and Marie Rogers. The jury found him guilty of first-degree murder and in a third trial in 2019, he was finally sentenced to life, which many believe is an unfair and controversial decision, because of the evidence based on which he was charged.
Pablo Ibar has not pleaded guilty to date. However, as per reports, he will continue to stay in jail after the Florida Court of Appeals rejected his request for the removal of the death penalty.
Season one episode 9 of The Real CSI: Miami will focus on this homicide. The episode is titled The Miramar Murders and will air on August 28, 2024, at 10 pm EST. on CBS.
The official synopsis of the same reads as follows:
"A concerned mother calls the local police about her missing daughter, leading authorities to discover a devastating execution-style murder scene of two young women."
Pablo Ibar was arrested after the brutal deaths of Butch Casey, Sharon Anderson, and Mary Rogers
Reportedly, after Butch Casey, Sharon Anderson, and Mary Rogers were beaten and shot to death on June 26, 1994, in Casey's Florida home, initially the authorities recovered a blue torn t-shirt, which one of the killers had used to cover his face while committing this triple homicide.
Alongside the t-shirt, the only other piece of evidence was a bloody shoe print. However, a few days later, the authorities found video footage that was captured by a hidden camera on the scene. The CCTV captured the whole homicide. It showed how the killers entered, slayed, and left.
The 22 min CCTV footage even showed how one of the killers took his t-shirt off with which he was covering his face, seconds before leaving.
Based on the cam evidence, the authorities sent out flyers and based on the comms, they initially arrested Alex Hernandez, Pablo Ibar, and Alberto Rincon. Later, in August 1994, Seth Penalver was also arrested for this triple homicide.
Pablo Ibar was kept in jail, however, Seth Penalver and the others were cleared
Reportedly, post-arrest, Ibar’s friends identified Ibar and Seth to be the ones in the killing cam. While the rest were cleared, Seth Penalver and Pablo Ibar were kept in custody. They went to trial together in 1998, which ended in a mistrial. In 2000, they were both sentenced to death, however, their death penalty was later turned over. Seth was cleared of all charges in 2012, during a retrial, as there was not enough evidence to keep him arrested.
On the other hand, Ibar who has not pleaded guilty to date was sentenced to life and continues to remain in prison. In 2019, the jury charged Ibar with theft and triple homicide.
Although his face resembled one of the intruders found in the footage, one cannot certainly tell if it was Ibar or not, because of the grainy video. It can also be possible that it was his lookalike or someone who wanted to frame him for some crime that he had not committed.
The DNA from the scene also linked Ibar to this crime. Cybernetics, the company behind the DNA testing has revealed that -
"The lab was able to identify only a partial major male profile from one of the T-Shirt area mixtures and included suspect Pablo Ibar as a contributor with a CPI match statistic of 11 million at 5 out of 15 loci... Using all of the DNA data, TrueAllele connected the T-shirt to Pablo Ibar with a match statistic of 353 trillion."
Pablo Ibar is currently serving his life sentence at South Bay Correctional Facility and has no possibility of parole. His family and well-wishers pray for justice and hope that he gets out of prison, as they believe him to be innocent.
