The woman is on a breakfast date with her new love interest, Tom. Her workmate, Karadec, also happens to be the woman's partner. Upon her arrival, she discovers that the woman is not dead but a phenomenon called the Lazarus Effect in which a person seems dead but later on recovers.
As the investigation proceeds, it will be evident that the victim whom the police officers identified as Heather Wallace is Penny Hall. Penny had been staying under an alias and is related to a two-year-old cold case: a tennis pro's murder case. The case thus made the detectives believe that her attack could have a link to unresolved issues that her boyfriend, who is dead, left her with.
Throughout the episode, Morgan struggles with her tumultuous personal life and growing feelings for Tom, all while she reflects on her complicated relationship with Karadec.
