Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial - Full list of cast in the docuseries

On June 5, 2024, Netflix released Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial, a docuseries chronicling the rise and fall of Adolf Hitler, the controversial historical figure prominent during World War II. Directed by Joe Berlinger the official logline for the show reads:

"This gripping docuseries examines Adolf Hitler and the Nazis' rise, rule and reckoning from pre-WWII to the Holocaust to the Nuremberg trials."

The six-part historical docuseries comprises actual footage from World War 2 and re-enactments. Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial also comprises never heard before audio footage from Nuremberg, where several Nazi leaders were put on trial due to their involvement in the capturing of several European countries and the torturing of civilians of the countries during the second world war.

To do justice to a complicated subject such as this, the show's director had to ensure that the personal testimonies were as authentic as possible and the re-enactments were well-performed. To achieve the same, Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial has a stellar cast comprising Devin Pendas, Richard John Evans, Erik Gyercán, Károly Kozma, Barnabás Bergendi, and Balázs Kató, among others.

The plot of Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial focuses on Adolf Hitler's character, which is portrayed by Károly Kozma (adult version) and Erik Gyercán(younger version). It also focuses on characters portrayed by Balázs Kató, Devin Pendas, Richard John Evans, and Barnabás Bergendi.

Károly Kozma/Erik Gyercán as Adolf Hitler

In Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial, Károly Kozma plays the older version of Adolf Hitler, while Erik Gyercán plays his younger version. Through the portrayal of young Hitler, the audiences are given a glimpse at the birth and making of the ruthless leader. And, through adult Hitler's portrayal, they are shown the heinousness of the crimes he committed on humanity.

You might remember Károly Kozma from The Curse(2012), Aranyélet(2015), and Tóth János(2017). Erik Gyercán on the other hand has previously only been associated with the casting process which makes the docuseries one of his first stints in front of the camera.

Balázs Kató as William Shirer

Balázs Kató stars as journalist William Shirer in Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial. Shirer's role in the docuseries is of utmost importance because the show itself would not have been possible without him. Shirer was one of the last few European journalists to leave Germany during the Second World War. Therefore he has witnessed everything that there is including Hitler's rise to prominence and the Nuremberg trials.

Throughout his life, he has extensively researched multiple war crime trials during the Second World War. Pendas appeared in the first episode of the series and spoke about the same in detail.

Richard John Evans as Himself

Richard John appeared as himself in Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial. He is Regius Professor of History at the University of Cambridge and President of Wolfson College in Cambridge. He is also the writer of several books chronicling the Second World War period. One of his most significant works to date is The Coming of the Third Reich.

Barnabás Bergendi as Rudolf Hess

Barnabás Bergendi plays Rudolf Hess, one of Hitler's most trusted friends and allies in Hitler and the Nazis: Evil on Trial. Through his character, the audiences will be able to catch a glimpse of the unwavering support Hitler received from his allies despite his inhuman ways.
