House of the Dragon season 2 episode 7 preview sees Alicent contemplating her decisions

It would be unfair to overlook Alicent Hightower's role in the current events of House of the Dragon season 2. The war between the Blacks and Greens over the Iron Throne was at least partially a result of Alicent's misunderstanding of King Viserys I Targaryen's final words before his passing.

Upon learning of the mistake, Alicent retreated into deep contemplation on her decisions after being excluded from important decisions related to the kingdom, despite her having helped them attain their positions in the first place.

With Aemond assuming the Prince Regent's position after Aegon was severely injured during Rook's Rest, Alicent's grip on the kingdom appears to be slipping.

In the House of Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 preview, released on July 22, 2024, on YouTube, viewers witness Alicent delving deep (figuratively and literally) into the unraveling of current events.

The preview shows Alicent walking through a forest to a body of water where she stands, with words of realization echoing in her mind. Will she submerge herself in the water as a form of repentance for her sins, or is this scene simply a product of her imagination? Only time will tell.

Alicent is unhappy with how the events have unfolded in House of the Dragon season 2

Alicent, who played a significant role in placing her son on the Iron Throne and taking steps to legitimize their ascent, would be expected to be treated with importance. However, in House of the Dragon season 2, that's not how things are currently.

As evident from the recent events in the show, Alicent is being pushed more and more into the sidelines as the deadly war between the Greens and the Blacks comes near. As expected, she is unhappy with the events.

Throughout season 2 of House of the Dragon, audiences get to witness several moments where Alicent is second-guessing all her decisions up to that point. However, following those realizations, she usually comes around and sticks to her decision.

Having said that, after she was kicked out of the Small Council by Aemond in the latest episode of the show, her resentment towards her decisions so far seems to have grown manifold.

As stated previously, in the preview teaser of House of the Dragon season 2 episode 7, Alicent is seen going through a forest into the waters wearing a white piece of clothing with the following words in her voice echoing in the background:

"All my life, I have endeavored to serve both my house and the realm. And somehow, none of it matters."

This particular scene will undoubtedly be impactful in tracing the trajectory of Alicent's character in the future.

House of Dragon season 2 episode 7 preview also sees Rhaenyra confronting Seasmoke's new rider

After Laenor Velaryon sets off on his adventures, the dragon Seasmoke becomes riderless. In the latest episode of the show, Rhaenyra tried her best to connect Ser Steffon Darklyn with Seasmoke; however, as the events unfolded, the dragon ended up burning him eventually.

However, later events in the episode depicted that Seasmoke has a new rider now, whom the audiences saw being confronted by Rhaenyra in the recently released seventh episode preview of House of the Dragon season 2.

This rider is Addam of Hull, one of Corlys Velaryon’s bastard children. In several instances throughout season 2, Seasmoke could be seen circling Addam's location in the background, which could be a way for him to connect with his new rider.

The episode preview finally establishes the identity of the new dragon rider, and from what it appears, Rhaenyra is not too happy with it. In the preview, she can be angrily heard saying to Addam:

"You stand with a dragon of House Targaryen! What do you want?"
