Those keeping up with the season-wise developments in House of the Dragon would be well aware of Ser Criston Cole's part in the chaos that looms upon King's Landing as the Greens and Blacks go against each other in war.
It all started when Cole was turned down by Rhaenyra as a prospective romantic partner in season 1 of the show, which resulted in him going against her and the Blacks and in support of the Greens. From then on, as tensions between the Greens and the Blacks intensified, Cole stood beside the Greens, leading their army into war.
One of the battles in which he took part on Aemond's orders was the Battle of Rook's Rest, which resulted in the sad demise of Rhaenys Targaryen. Following the deadly battle, Cole has stood beside the Greens; however, in the latest preview for the show's upcoming episode, it appears that he is repenting his past decisions.
In the trailer released by Max on YouTube on July 29, 2024, Cole can be heard saying:
"The dragons dance, and men are like dust under their feet. We march now toward our annihilation."
He says these lines with a sense of disappointment and fear, almost as if he has realized that he might have miscalculated the magnitude of his actions and those of others around him.

Ser Criston Cole taking a step back would entail a huge penalty for the Greens in House of the Dragon season 2
In the Greens vs. Blacks war, Ser Criston Cole plays one of the most important roles, leading the Green army from the front. However, as previously stated, it seems like Cole is having some kind of epiphany or even a change of heart in the latest preview teaser for the show's final episode.
If this were to be true, then it would be a big blow for the Greens, as Criston has played an instrumental part in solidifying their army. With Aegon bedridden following his injuries and Aemond acting as Prince Regent in his absence, Criston was the voice of reason among the Greens.
Alicent cannot be more disappointed with how things have turned out in House of the Dragon season 2
One of the many people who have not been able to hide their disappointment towards the current circumstances in House of the Dragon is Alicent Hightower. Solely responsible for her children's being able to lay claim to the throne after Viserys' death, Alicent has been reduced to a nobody in the court.
Only recently, she was removed from the Small Council after Aemond assumed Prince Regent's position following Aegon's injuries. Since then, Alicent has not been too keen on acting on the decisions she has taken in the past. She has also expressed her disappointment towards Aemond's actions as well as Aegon's actions in the past.
In the preview for episode eight of House of the Dragon season 2, Alicent can be seen speaking to Aemond in an angry tone. She says:
"You wish to rule the Seven Kingdoms, but you reign ruin and death."
Her words feel like the final nail in the coffin, after all she has been subjected to at the hands of her children.
House of the Dragon season 2 episode 8 will be released on Max on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 9 pm ET.
