One of these events included Rhaenyra Targaryen trying to amass more power and reliable soldiers for her side. For thata, she sends one of her council members, Ser Alfred Broome, to Harrenhal. Even though Rhaenyra and Broome often don't see eye to see, she trusts his loyalty and gives him a message for her husband Daemon.

Harrenhal is a fortress at a strategic location in the show and could be the key to turning the war around. It's no surprise that Rhaenyra wishes to know Daemon's intentions with the castle and is sending someone to make sure of its safety.

In House of the Dragon season 2 episode 5, Rhaenyra Targaryen tries to find ways to expand her army after the battle at Rook's Rest.

The Black faction feels the need to retaliate in some way after Rhaenys' death. The council members start feeling at odds with their queen, feeling that Rhaenyra might not be suited to war, so Rhaenyra feels caged at Dragonstone.

One of the council members Rhaenyra has a major disagreement with is Ser Alfred Broome. He seems insistent on her taking a backseat in the battle, preserving her life as the rightful heir to the throne. The audience may even assume that Rhaenyra doesn't trust Broome.

However, as the episode progresses, Rhaenyra gives him an important task. After realising that the Black faction needs support from the Riverlands, Rhaenyra sends Ser Alfred to Harrenhal to see what her uncle/husband Daemon is up to.

Initially, Broome feels like Rhaenyra is simply getting rid of him so that she may face less opposition on the council. But she assures him that it's not the case, as she trusts his loyalty.

She asks him to keep an eye on Daemon and see whether the army he's raising is for her. By entrusting Ser Alfred to root out any possibility of Daemon's treason, Rhaenyra shows her belief in him.

Harrenhal is an important stronghold in House of the Dragon season 2. It's the main castle of the Riverlands and is supposed to hold the most symbolic value. However, when Daemon conquers it, the castle is poorly defended and almost in a state of shambles.

Daemon is trying to repair the castle, recruit an army of soldiers and establish Harrenhal as a proper fortress. However, he may have malicious intentions, as he tells Alys Rivers.

It seems that Daemon intends to keep the castle for himself and declare himself the heir to the throne. We are yet to see what the reaction will be when Rhaenyra hears of this treason by her own husband.
