The season finale for Dune: Prophecy aired on December 22, 2024, on Max. Titled The High-Handed Enemy, the sixth episode of the series brings a close to season 1. A lot of reveals and set ups are teased at the end of the episode and it further explores exactly where fans may be going in season 2. Not just that, but it also reveals more about Desmond and exactly how he got his powers.

The Dune: Prophecy season finale finally gives a clear answer to how Desmond Hart got his powers and it definitely confirms that it wasn't Shai-Hulud who gave it to him. Rather, the source of Desmond Hart's powers is revealed to be Thinking Machines that were implanted in him.

This development itself raises many questions which fans can surely expect to be carried over into season 2.

Exploring how Desmond Hart got his powers in Dune: Prophecy

In Dune: Prophecy, it was originally revealed that Desmond Hart got his powers after being swallowed by Shai-Hulud on Arrakis. This was after his whole team had been wiped out, but he survived the event and claimed that he got a gift from the giant worm which he would use to serve the Imperium. The powers saw him be able to burn anyone alive from the inside.

However, throughout the show, it is revealed that Desmond is actually passing on a virus to his victims which feeds on fear. More about Desmon Hart's powers were revealed at the end when he came face-to-face with Valya and tried infecting her.

However, at the end, when Valya saw Shai-Hulud, she composed herself and let the fear flow through her. There she saw a vision of what happened to Desmon on Arraks.

Through the vision, it is revealed that Desmond actually had someone put Thinking Machines inside his eyes. The source of his powers comes from the same thing that he hates and he isn't exactly aware of it.

The identity behind the person who put the Thinking Machines inside Desmond remains unknown as of now, but it certainly seems like they have a vendetta against the Sisterhood too.

With Desmond hating the Sisterhood as well due to Tula abandoning him as a child, it certainly looks like he was doing someone else's bidding as well.

What does this mean for Dune: Prophecy season 2?

Going into Dune: Prophecy season 2, fans can expect to see Valya investigate exactly who put the Thinking Machines inside Desmond. The ending of season 1 teases the fact that Valya is on Arrakis with Princess Ynez and Keiran Atreides to investigate the same exact thing.

So, going forward in the show, fans can certainly expect to see the show spend more time on Arrakis.

Not only that, but fans can also perhaps expect to learn the identity behind the person who put the Thinking Machines inside Desmond as that will be the main question going forward.

As for Desmond, with him being reunited with Tula and embracing her at the end of the season, fans can expect to spend more time with them as well in Dune: Prophecy season 2.

It certainly looks like more about the reckoning will be revealed in the next season. Until then, be sure to stay tuned for further updates.
