The first season of Dune: Prophecy finally came to an end when episode 6 of the series premiered on December 22, 2026. The episode brought a conclusion to many storylines while setting up new ones that are clearly set to carry on in an upcoming season 2 of the show. Most importantly, it looks like the HBO series is gearing up to take fans to a major location from the franchise.

A season 2 of Dune: Prophecy is already in development at HBO for Max. By the way the first season ends, it looks like fans will be going back to Arrakis in season 2 of the show. The location was famously where the Dune movies take place and is also one of the most important planets in the franchise.

Not only that, but it looks like season 2 of the show will also be focusing on how the Sisterhood is set to turn its back on Valya Harkonnen after learning her secrets.

Exploring how Dune: Prophecy season 1 sets up season 2

At the end of Dune: Prophecy, Valya Harkonnen and Desmond Hart finally face each other. While Desmond tries infecting Valya with her powers, she is shown a vision of trying to save her brother Griffin, but Valya starts getting fearful images in her vision which ultimately leads to Shai-Hulud. However, Tula arrives on time and helps Valya survive Desmond's attack.

That's where Valya sees that back on Arrakis, Desmond didn't receive his powers from Shai-Hulud, but rather had Thinking Machines implanted in him. The machines give him the ability to infect someone with a virus that feeds on fear and that Desmond was only doing the bidding of someone more sinister. After leaving Tula, Valya goes back to Ynez and Keiran.

They leave Salusa Secundus and travel to Arrakis as Valya believes that's where the true enemy lies. So, it certainly looks like a chunk of season 2 will be based in Arrakis. Not only that, but it will also help explain exactly who is after the Sisterhood and why they want to destroy it.

On Salusa Secundus as well, fans will get to see how Natalya will rule after killing her husband and exactly what Desmond's arc will be going forward as he has been united with his mother.

Dune: Prophecy season 2 may also feature a turning point for the Sisterhood

As for the Sisterhood, Mother Dorotea returned through Lila's body in the Dune: Prophecy season finale. With her shocked to see what's become of the Sisterhood, she revealed Valya's deep secrets of how she murdered anyone who opposed her plans. She did this by draining the well on Wallach IX which revealed the bodies of many dead sisters.

So, in Dune: Prophecy season 2, fans can also expect to see the acolytes of the Sisterhood go forward and dismiss Valya Harkonnen's teachings. With so much going down and Dorotea back through Lila, she will focus on ensuring that her grandmother's great work doesn't last. It certainly looks like season 2 will focus on Dorotea trying to get her teachings back to the Sisterhood.

As of now, a release date for season 2 hasn't been revealed yet. But for further updates stay tuned to us.
