House of the Dragon season 2 episode 8, which will serve as the season finale, is all set to arrive on HBO and Max on August 4, 2024. Episode 7 of House of the Dragon season 2, titled The Red Sowing, was a win-win for Rhaenyra after she got her new dragon riders.

Episode 8 will be the longest episode of the second installment and will have a runtime of 73 minutes.

The official promo of the season finale hinted at how the last episode will be less of a political and more of a war-heavy episode. We expect the show to hold many more titular battles and important events in the upcoming installment after ending the current season with a hook that will make fans wait eagerly for the next.

House of the Dragon season 2 episode 8 runtime explored

House of the Dragon season 2 episode 8 will be 73 minutes long, as we already know, making it the longest episode of House of the Dragon to date. The official title for episode eight has not been revealed yet. Even with fewer episodes in the second installment, the showrunners have not compensated with the show's run-time.

Season two has only 8 episodes compared to season one, which had 10. The longest episode of season 1 was episode 6, titled The Princess and the Queen, with a runtime of 1 hour and 8 minutes. In season 2, the longest episode to date has been episode 2, titled Rhaenyra the Cruel, which had a run time of 1 hour and 12 minutes.

The episode 8 preview, which was released on July 29, 2024, showed Cole motivating his army, the Lannisters and the Hightowers arriving, and Aemond convincing Halaena to join her for battle; the stage is now set.

The preview also showed Daeron on Tessarion joining the Green Army while they march with Ser Cole and Aemond. The episode will mark a very important chapter in The Dance of the Dragons lore where Aemond moving to Harrenhall will leave King’s Landing defenseless, which will lead to Rhaenyra capturing the Red Keep along with Syrax and Daemon on Caraxes.

What to expect from House of the Dragon season 2 episode 8

The leaks that surfaced online have revealed a lot about the season finale. The spoilers were later removed aggressively by HBO. From whatever we know from the leaks, it confirms that Helaena is a dreamer as she makes major revelations about Daemon, Aegon, and Aemond’s future.

As per the spoilers, in episode 8, Daemon will also have a vision of the future after placing his hand on the Weirwood, which will reveal to him about the White Walker threat and how Aegon the Conquerer's dream is true. Daemon, in one of his visions, will also see Rhaenyra as the rightful heir sitting on the iron throne. Later in the episode, Daemon pledges his allegiance to Rhaenyra once again, and they will fight for the throne together.

In the final episode, Aegon will also leave King’s Landing to save himself, and so will Alicent, who will convince Rhaenyra to capture King’s Landing without shedding a drop of blood just to save Aegon, as hinted via the leaks.

With just 30 minutes of leaked footage, there is surely a lot more to witness in episode 8 as Daemon and Rhaenyra set the stage to capture King’s Landing.

House of the Dragon season 2 is now streaming on Max. The season finale will air on Sunday, August 4, at 9 p.m. ET.
