The series spotlighted the 7-time Olympic medal winner’s life, emphasizing her personal life and the mental and physical toll that the sport sometimes takes on someone of her stature.

In the Netflix docuseries, Biles, for the first time, spoke in detail about the tribulations she had to face after she had decided to withdraw from the 2020 Summer Olympics. During the time, Biles was severely scrutinized for her decision to step down from the esteemed event.

In the docuseries, she highlights the ramifications of the chatter surrounding the event on her mental health, pointing out that it led to a worsening of her situation. As pointed out by her in the series, the effects were so bad that it led to severe, repeated mental breakdowns.

She attributed her decision to step down from the Olympics to what is referred to as “the twisties” in gymnastics, which hampers mind and body coordination. She also spotlighted her poor mental health during the time, which led her to fastrack the decision.

Additionally, she also spoke about the treatment that was meted out to her by people in positions of power and, in general, following her withdrawal, which further worsened her condition.


Is Simone Biles partaking in the 2024 Olympics?

As of the writing of this article, Simone has officially made it to the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris. She made the team on June 30, 2024, after the conclusion of the last leg of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. After the news of her selection became public, she took to Instagram on July 2, 2024, to share the happy news with her followers.

She posted a montage of photos from the Trial event and captioned it:

“See y’all in Paris.”

Following her selection, she also spoke to selective news outlets, including the Associated Press. In a conversation with the popular publication, Biles exhuberated confidence and hope towards the upcoming Olympics. She also harped upon not being too fixated on the result of the event and taking one step at a time. She said:

“I feel like success is just what I make it. I feel like right now I’ve been successful of competing at Olympic trials and making the Paris Olympic team. So then we’ll see from there on out.”
