The serious allegations of s*xual misconduct against acclaimed author Neil Gaiman, well known for Good Omens, American Gods, and The Sandman, come from eight women. Charges against him include coercion, s*xual assault, and manipulation over a span of nearly four decades.

New York Magazine published a cover story detailing the accusations, following the earlier claims in a podcast series by Tortoise Media. Gaiman's representatives have dismissed these allegations, stating that all the interactions were consensual.

Summary of allegations against Neil Gaiman

According to BBC, the allegations against Gaiman are made by a cross-section of women who are either fans or personally known to him through work or social connections. As per BBC, the first public claim was made by Scarlett Pavlovich, a former nanny for Gaiman and his ex-wife Amanda Palmer.

Pavlovich claimed that in February 2022, when babysitting Gaiman's five-year-old child on Waiheke Island, New Zealand, he asked her to bathe in his garden. According to BBC, she alleged that he joined her in the bathtub naked and forced her to engage in s*xual acts with him, instructing her to call him "master" during the encounter.

According to the Times of India, other women have similar stories. One of the victims, referred to as "K," was an 18-year-old when she met Gaiman at a book signing event. She began dating him and alleged to have had coercive and non-consensual s*xual acts with him during their time together, leaving her emotionally traumatized.

According to the Times of India, another accuser is Caroline Wallner, who lived on Gaiman's property from 2014 until 2021. According to her, Gaiman exploited her vulnerable position after divorce by coercing her into s*xual acts. Wallner stated that Gaiman would coerce her into having s*x with him by threatening to take away her housing and employment.

According to the Times of India, Pavlovich described feeling "subtle terror" as Gaiman allegedly made demeaning remarks while attempting to coerce her into s*xual acts.

According to the Times of India, in addition to the bathtub incident, she also reported an assault that took place in a hotel room in the presence of his son.

Katherine Kendall, according to BBC, alleged that Neil Gaiman had forced himself on her during a tour in 2012.

According to USA Today, another woman claimed to have been groped at public events and been subject to unwanted s*xual advances for years. Most of the women were much younger than Neil Gaiman when the incidents allegedly took place.

Meanwhile, the reaction from within the literary community and fan base has been mixed. Many have denounced the claims leveled against an author who has been celebrated for his contributions to literature.

According to BBC, the representatives of Neil Gaiman have denied all claims stating that they are "false" and "deplorable." According to them, everything was consensual, and the context was wrongfully represented.
