The Apprentice, which saw Sebastian Stan play the role of Donald Trump, became one of last year's most talked-about films. The title of the film itself was pulled from the TV show of the same name; however, both the projects don't really share much of a connection. While Trump has become quite the big name in the media world, his personality was made even more known thanks to this show.

Running for around 14 seasons, Donald Trump was a huge part of The Apprentice. Hosting the show from 2004 to 2015, the reality series made him a TV star and portrayed the business version of him that many know well today. Throughout that endeavor, the TV show made Trump even richer, earning him around $214 million, which was revealed by the Federal Election Commission filings and accounts.

However, Trump also had earlier provided a figure that was eventually debunked by the one mentioned above. Talking to People Magazine in June 2025, the President of the United States of America claimed that he had made around $500 million on the show. Which would be half more than what the Federal Election Commission filings and accounts stated.

But $214 million is still a very high sum to earn off one show.

The Apprentice is a reality TV series created by Mark Burnett. The concept sees various people from around the United States of America with different professional backgrounds come to the show. They engage in an elimination-styled game where they compete to become an apprentice to a businessman.

That businessman happened to be Donald Trump, who was also a producer on the show alongside being the host. This was a first-of-its-kind reality TV series where competitors competed to win a $250,000 contract and an opportunity to run one of Trump's real estate companies as well.

However, while The Apprentice was hosted by Donald Trump for over 14 seasons, he was eventually fired by NBC. This came during his presidential campaign in 2015, where he was accused of making many offensive comments during one of his speeches. Following Trump's firing, actor and Californian governor Arnold Schwarzenegger replaced the politician.

The movie The Apprentice doesn't have anything to do with the show. Rather, it is a biopic based on Donald Trump that is directed by director Ali Abbasi. The film stars actor Sebastian Stan in the role of the controversial politician as it explores his early life in New York City while working to become the figure he is right now.

The official synopsis of the film as per Rotten Tomatoes reads:

"A young Donald Trump (Sebastian Stan), eager to make his name as a hungry second son of a wealthy family in 1970s New York, comes under the spell of Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong), the cutthroat attorney who would help create the Donald Trump we know today. Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protégé -- someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win."

Joining Sebastian Stan in the film are also Jeremy Strong and Maria Bakalova. The movie was released in the United States on October 11, 2024.
