Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman's son, Levon Hawke is all set to make his theatre directorial debut. The 22-year-old will direct the play Picture Day, which will open at Red Hook, Brooklyn's Coffey Street Studios on September 20 of this year and will run through until October 6, 2024.
The show is also written by Levon and according to the production, it explores the themes of "identity, s*xuality and the complexities of modern friendships". Levon is Ethan and Uma's youngest child together. The 22-year-old was last seen playing the role of a convict in his father's 2023 directorial Wildcat alongside his sister Maya Hawke.
Levon Hawke's Picture Day is produced by the Quick & Dirty Theatre Company
As Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman's oldest child, Maya Hawke has already become a household name with her performances in projects like Stranger Things and Inside Out 2, her younger sibling Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke is all set to don the hat of director with the upcoming play Picture Day.
Levon's Picture Day, which he also wrote, will become the first full-length play from Brooklyn's Quick & Dirty Theatre Company. The company was only established last year by actor, producer, and writer Booth McGowan, who also serves as the Co-Artistic Director of the company. The company is well known for its public readings and one-act plays.
According to the production, the play focused on the "secrets we keep and the reasons behind our silence". The synopsis for Levon's directorial debut read:
"Set in a mundane afternoon in a shared living room, the play follows five roommates as they navigate pseudo-family dramas, s*xuality, identity, and the complexities of modern male friendships."
A post on Instagram by the Quick & Dirty Theatre Company showcased Levon Hawke holding an empty picture frame in front of some of the people working on the show, including Booth McGowan. Back in April, the company also posted a picture of a table read for the play, which also featured Levon Hawke. As per the company, the table read was "wildly successful".
Levon Hawke's career explored
Albeit not as frequently or successfully as his sister, Levon Hawke has previously worked on a few projects himself. According to IMDb, Levon played the role of a convict in his father Ethan Hawke's 2023 film Wildcat which also starred Maya Hawke, Cooper Hoffman, Laura Linney, Willa Fitzgerald, and Liam Neeson.
Levon Hawke also starred in 6 episodes of the Apple TV + psychological thriller miniseries The Crowded Room created by Titans co-developer Akiva Goldsman. The miniseries saw Levon star alongside veteran actors like Tom Holland, Emmy Rossum, and Amanda Seyfried.
Levon also made an appearance in the music video for his older sister's 2022 track Thérèse. Levon's first acting credit comes from the 2018 short Blackout. Apart from acting and directing, Levon is also a talented composer, having composed two tracks, namely Missing Out and Black Ice from Maya Hawke's 2024 album Chaos Angel.
Apart from the aforementioned play, Levon Hawke also has two more prominent upcoming acting projects. Levon stars in Elliott Lester's The Thicket which also stars Juliette Lewis, Peter Dinklage, Sophia Lillis, and even Metallica frontman James Hetfield. The Thicket is all set to hit theaters on September 6 of this year.
The 22-year-old will also star in Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut Blink Twice, which also stars Channing Tatum, Christian Slater, Adria Arjona, Alia Shawkat, Naomi Ackie, Simon Rex, Geena Davis, and Haley Joel Osment. The psychological thriller is scheduled to release in theaters on August 23, 2024.
In other news, Levon Hawke turned a lot of heads back in May when he suited up to walk the red carpet at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival alongside his mother Uma Thurman.
