A brief look at Shannen Doherty's acting career
Shannen Doherty rose to fame as Brenda Walsh on Fox's television drama series Beverly Hills, 90210, which ran for 10 seasons. The character was the female lead of the show for the first four seasons, which focused on her struggle to settle into a new place and city.
Prior to playing Brenda Walsh, Doherty has appeared in shows like Voyagers! and Father Murphy in a guest appearance. She played Kris in the family series Our House from 1986 to 1988, after appearing alongside Helen Hunt and Sarah Jessica Parker in the teen comedy film Girls Just Want to Have Fun.
In the same year, she played one of the Heathers in the iconic dark comedy film Heathers, with Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Lisanne Falk, and Kim Walker.
After her breakout performance in Beverly Hills, 90210, she again became part of a widely popular television series Charmed. This fantasy drama followed three Halliwell sisters who possessed magical powers. The popular show ran on The WB from October 7, 1998, until May 21, 2006.
However, Doherty left the show after the third season. It was reported that the reason for her departure was her differences with the co-actor Alyssa Milano. The actress addressed the rumors in her YouTube podcast with Holly Marie Combs last December.
Despite the problems, the actress became one of the biggest names in television. Later, she diversified her role and became a producer and show host as well.
In 2016, she became a part of the planned Heathers television series, but the show was later pulled out by Paramount+ after the Parkland School Shooting. Her last few projects were the sequel of Beverly Hills 90210 and James Cullen's action film Fortress.
Despite suffering from breast cancer, Doherty kept on inspiring through her works. She had a YouTube podcast Let's Be Clear With Shannen Doherty, whose last episode was uploaded on July 8, 2024.
